To not stop DD when she.....

Chirpygirl · 01/07/2007 09:50

runs into our bedroom at 6am in the morning and starts poking, patting and shouting at DH until he wakes up and acknowledges her, even though he is currently on late shifts and needs a lie in?

I suspect DH thinks I am but she asks for Dada the second I lift her from the cot and I don't like to refuse my PFB.....

you say you go to bed at the the same time. why dont you go to bed earlier?

not being funny, but i would.

and yes its a bit mean.

Chirpygirl · 01/07/2007 10:11

I know I should go to bed earlier but if I do I'd never spend any time alone with him.....
Might be in bed before he gets home tonight though.....

I don't think you are mean chirpygirl. If he wakes, acknowledges her and can go back to sleep for 3 hours it's really not a problem!

Also FWIW I don't see 6.00 as that early. In our house DS2 wakes 5 - 5.30 every day. 6 o'clock is a lie-in for us!

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 01/07/2007 10:12

well if you start going to bed before he comes in from work, he might take a hint when he has barely seen you for a few days and get up earlier

GodzillasBumcheek · 01/07/2007 10:18

That depends what time you get to sleep, surely? I need a solid 8 hours or i am cranky as heck. Unfortunately have been on 7 hours since dd3 was born. Ah woe is me.

TrinityRhino · 01/07/2007 10:20

7 hours
and yuou think that is tough
I need a solid 8 hours or I start to feel like I have been run over by a bus
but I haven't had more than 3 hours straight and no more than 7 in a night for 2 years now

TrinityRhino · 01/07/2007 10:21

and all I would like is for my dh not to be such a selfish git and maybe get up with the kids once a week

Chirpygirl · 01/07/2007 10:22

I have probably had about 7 hours but I am the same, anything less than 8 and I am a state. I used to have really bad insomnia and can feel myself getting into that 'everything feels like a dream' state.

And he's still asleep! thats 4 and a half hours extra!

OP posts:
Chirpygirl · 01/07/2007 10:23

Thats' 7 hours broken as I am a light sleeper and we have loud neighbours!

Children who wake up early usually go to bed too early. My sister is always complaining about hers - now has a rule no waking until 6am (very late for hers!) who sometimes are up at 4.30am or 5am and it's because they're all getting down to bed round 6 or 7. If she backended the process and had them asleep by 9 I'm sure they'd sleep longer.

hippmummy · 01/07/2007 10:45

Xenia - it's a good theory but some children are just larks. We have tried every piece of advice we can think of for our early waker, including a later bedtime. He still insists on waking around 5.00.

We've resigned ourselves to it now and the only way to cope with it is to go to bed as early as we can ourselves.

JodieG1 · 01/07/2007 10:48

Xenia if I put mine to bed later they still get up early but are knackered all day as well. Children just aren't all the same. I wish it was that easy.

suncream · 01/07/2007 10:57

I work late shifts twice a week, in bed around midnight, and STILL I'm the one getting up with ds at 5.30am...and yes Xenia, we tried several weeks of putting him down later, all that happened is that he woke up at 4.30 instead...
OP, if your dp goes back to sleep what's the problem? I don't think you ABU, although you're probably trying to make a point to him by waking him up.

lemonaid · 01/07/2007 11:03

Agree -- DS wakes up by 6 at the latest whether he goes to bed at 7 or at 10.

crunchie · 01/07/2007 11:04

personally my 1st thought was yes YABU, then I read on, he is doing 2 - 10, so geetingin at what 11. SO he could easily be in bed by 12, which mean NO you are no unreasonable. Also the fact he wakes, says hello and sleeps again, mean again not unreasonable. HOWEVER I think he needs to let you have a couple of lie ins too

Chirpygirl · 01/07/2007 11:32

Thanks guys!

The early waking isn't normally an issue, she normally wakes at 7 but is being woken as our neighbour is going out early for some reason. I really feel for you guys that have permanently early wakers!

He's up now, finally. Looking nice and rested, and he's in at 1 which means I don't have time for a decent nap before he has to go!

OP posts:
Ulysees · 01/07/2007 11:36

yes you didn't say you were pg and that he only works until 10.

Is he up yet? You need a lie in too hun

Ulysees · 01/07/2007 11:37

go up for an hour then

Judy1234 · 01/07/2007 12:00

hip, how old is he? One of my twins has always been the lark but gradually he's slept later. At 8 now he wakes at 7.30 if they've gone to sleep at 10 the night before. If he went to sleep at 7 he'd wake at 4.30.

worzsel · 01/07/2007 12:21

I dont think that bed later/ up later is true tbh, Toddlers need 12 or 13 hours sleep a night and a nap in the day, If they are going to bed later they could be over tired and be up earlier. DD goes down between 6 30 and 7 30 and usually wakes about 7 and thats how it works for most of my friends aswell and we all seem to put them to bed earlier but thay are all good sleepers. I'd go stir crazy if dd was up till 10 and the house would be a pig sty !

My kids are always in bed by 7/7.30pm.

They are usually awake by about 7/7.30am.

Last week when we had a late night [11pm] ds was still up at 7.30am but dd slept in to 9.45am.

dd is 5.6 & ds is 2.6.

They have always been early risers
