Following on from another thread my DH informed me the other night that I load the cutlery wrong in our dishwasher. It has a cutlery tray at the top and he says it's easier to put the knives on the far away side because they are easier to turn than the forks .......HmmGrin

I also have to refold half my washing if DM or MIL (kindly) fold it for me because they won't fit in nice piles with those already in the drawers Wink

When people use the phrase: “I’m guttered”. Drives me insane! It’s gutted, not guttered. Makes them sound dumb. Or pacific instead of specific.

brizzledrizzle · 22/01/2019 04:15

@maltharders you win the thread Grin

At this point I also have to confess to having two kindles...

I have 4.

Bathroom kindle - oldest one, has keys and is read in the bath
Bedroom Kindle
Handbag Kindle
Spare Kindle - the one that died by being dropped in the bath when bathroom kindle was being charged - it dried out with rice but not before I replaced it.

I call them local driving rules. Here in Wolverhampton if you are sitting at a red light and the car opposite, also at red, has their indicator on to turn right then you let them turn before you go through, usually indicated by a flash of lights. Which is nice. Unless you are not local when you get a bloody great shock when you have just pulled forward and a car turns in front of you.

Having moved from London my first week here I saw a gap in the traffic and pulled into it, apparently that is cutting someone up, even though there was enough space for three cars. In London if there is a gap you use it.

Manchester, at red lights, you have to set off as soon as the light is green, if you don't you may be rear ended by three cars, when coming up to a light that is amber you have to go through or the same will happen again. No one stops until the light is actually red.

My DD eats mandarins whole like an apple, she doesn't eat the segments separately. She peels one half and holds it by the peely side, and... just eats it. It's the oddest thing I've ever seen.

toomuchtooold · 22/01/2019 06:18

Lab students:
don't pay enough attention to contamination sources and behaviour

Are you a chemist? Have you ever demonstrated in an undergrad lab when they do their first reaction using dry, or by the time they're finished "dry", glassware? I could weep watching that.

Shimy · 22/01/2019 07:00

@bumble

All I can compare it to is how other people watch tv. So, just because you're in the middle of a brilliant series doesn't mean you can't watch a film half way through or watch the news or a documentary does it? We-ell that's how I read.

ShockTHAT! is the most bonkers thing I’ve read on here in a while AND I’m going to try it.

crispysausagerolls · 22/01/2019 07:07

DH PUTS STUFF IN THE DISHWASHER THE NORMAL WAY ROUND!!!!! Not upside down!!!! So when it’s been on I open it and there are bowls and cups full of rank dirty water that need emptying and Rewashing 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Betsy86 · 22/01/2019 07:22

brieislife you are correct im fully with you on conveyor etiquette lol.

I work on a checkout and omg the shambles of some peoples shopping efforts fills me with sadness 😂😂
If you put bulky items like boxes of beer/ cans etc first they can be loaded straight into the bottom of the trolley and not crush anything else.
To be fair i do enjoy watching different peoples shopping ways as sometimes im inspired at the skill and how organised people are with various bags. However sometimes i think im so thankful i dont live with you!
I think the worst is people like a lady the other day who had some lovely fresh strawberries and blueberries etc all packed up nicely... then she dumped a extra large fresh chicken on top of it all Envy i even offered her a small bag to go round the chicken first but no no she didn’t want to pollute the environment... i didn’t bother to comment on the fact she had used a bag for one lemon and another for a single orange🙃

GingerbreadBlob · 22/01/2019 07:22

I've got a 22 year old son and my "it's easier to do it myself, quickly and right" thought process, really, really has come back to bite him in the ass and, consequently, myself.

It has done him no favours at all.

This was never verbalised, I just did it, really without any thought that this could be a problem down the line. I have another, severely disabled, child and time/exhaustion/preferring to use any spare time I had doing fun stuff with my DS just got in the way.

Independence, so what if it's not done right, consequences appearing for DS not sorting stuff out himself - did not materialise till his teens.

Sorry for going off track, but those of you with little ones who, might think they're helping DC, you're not. Learn from my mistake.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/01/2019 07:55

"Brushing teeth or washing up with the tap running drives me nuts because it wastes water."

I'm with you on the teeth brushing, but washing dishes under the tap is the most efficient and hygienic way, even if not the most environmental. It washes and rinses at the same time.
Even if I wash in the bowl, I need to rinse under running water as I only have one sink so I'd have running water on anyway.
I'm on a meter as well, but don't do the dishes very often, so it works out.

RedForShort · 22/01/2019 08:06

My husband uses the bed wrong. Well more specially the pillows, has them on their long edge. Weirdo. (It makes his snoring worse so I'm being polite with weirdo.)

XmasPostmanBos · 22/01/2019 08:36

After a shower my dh hangs his towels up in a weird way by kind of wedging it over the top rung of the towel rail in a bunch so it will takes ages to dry. He also uses a flannel which he screws into a ball and reuses for ages. I just let him get on with it and to be fair his skin seems fine.

brizzledrizzle · 22/01/2019 08:44

I also have two kindles, a fiction kindle on the bedside table and a non-fiction kindle in the lounge.

toomuchtooold · 22/01/2019 08:46

Gingerbreadblob I think you make a very good point generally but I hope you don't mind me saying: with one of your children having severe disability and you presumably having a lot of care responsibilities, I think you were totally justified in letting that one slip. Your boy's still young, he can still learn.

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 22/01/2019 08:49

According to my dh I do most of the tidying up and cleaning wrong. I think he's just slightly obsessed and stubborn. I struggle to bite my tongue when I see him hang up clothing to dry. No care at all it seems and he doesn't shake them first to take out the biggest creases. After kids we've both become more tolerant of each others way of doing things though, every little thing helps even if not done completely "correctly"

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 22/01/2019 10:52

My husband uses the bed wrong. Well more specially the pillows, has them on their long edge. Weirdo.

We do that. One each widthways for our heads, and one each vertically, down our bodies. Sometimes there's a third one between our knees. It's like the Mexican Wall is already built in our bed.

When we get into bed we have to arrange it all properly or we can't get comfy. DH calls it the central support system.

HesterLee · 22/01/2019 10:53

I think dusting then hoovering is wrong. I use the hoover to clean everything. I start with the high up things first and finish with the carpets.

toomuchtooold · 22/01/2019 11:08

I actually dust with the hoover as well. That wee fuzzy attachment, that can dust anything. But I start high as well.

ElvisParsley · 22/01/2019 11:36

Can we just go back to the towel folding thing? What about when you are folding to hang on a towel rail?

I fold end to end, then a second fold in the same direction, so that the two ends of the towel are down the right hand side. This means that any patterned bit on the towel hangs vertically. And the middle part of the towel is against the (heated) towel rail.

DH folds end to end, then into quarters, so the pattern is horizontal and the middle doesn’t get warm. Drives me demented. 15 years of marriage, and I refold his towel every single day!

My way IS right. Daily towel washers are wrong whatever they do and need not answer.

wanderings · 22/01/2019 11:38

I like to be in the room while DH wraps my presents, so I can hear him, and wonder what he's got me. But even though I have a sleeping mask over my eyes so I can't see, everyone says this is all wrong, and that he should instead do it when I'm another room, or out of the house! Shock Sad

JemSynergy · 22/01/2019 12:00

I hold my fork in my right hand and knife in my left. I am right handed

Wheresmrlion · 22/01/2019 12:04

Visitors making tea using their method in my house.

In laws use teabag tongs at home. I hate them and think it makes more of a mess, I am much better at squeezing and disposing with a tea spoon. They bought us one for our house. I hid it. Now every time they make a cuppa at ours there is angst over where the teabag tong is.

My parents have a manky pile of old teabags piled on a little plate next to the kettle at their house. Disposed of about once a week. At my house we make tea then dispose of the teabag into the bin straight away. When they come to my house they set up a little plate next to my kettle for them to pile their used teabags on. It looks horrible and they never bloody empty it so I get the joyous task of sorting it out when they’ve gone.

Drives me bloody bonkers. Just fit in with the tea etiquette of the house you’re in rather than impose your (incorrect) methodology on me.

Yabbers · 22/01/2019 12:18

Steam mopping the floors.

When i do it the mop head ends up
filthy. When OH or the cleaner does it, mop head is still quite clean.

How???

laurG · 22/01/2019 12:32

Haha your husband and mil could be mine. They have very ‘particular’ ways of doing things that are ‘right’. Washing and dishwasher are two of his pet hates that I do wrong... others include:

  • not pre washing dishes before putting them in the dishwasher and putting pots in the dishwasher
  • not hanging up his shirts properly
  • not putting things on the ‘right’ shelves in the fridge
  • packing the shopping wrong in the supermarket (I do it by weight he does it by food type) then unpacking it wrongly
  • I lock the back door after I’ve come in he leaves it unlocked until the end of the day and it’s my fault if it’s not then locked ;even if he unlocked it

The list goes on... thing is he does loads of things different from me but I just accept that he has his own way and I have mine. In contrast he is determined that my way is wrong!!! Blame his mum... she is lovely but very particular

Lweji · 22/01/2019 12:32

Are you a chemist?
Biologist, but a range from microbiology to molecular biology.
At some point someone complained that cell culture was very expensive due to all the contamination issues. Hmm I had to point out that they were probably doing things wrong.
