AIBU to just do what Martin Lewis says??

I'm not an expert on finance.
Martin Lewis is so trusted that I blindly do what he says. I've taken out car finance on his recommendation, switched my energy supplier, swapped my savings account and more. Is this daft?
I can research it all myself but it's easier to just do what Martin tells me. I trust him. AIBU?

YANBU

I once read the job descriptions when MSE was recruiting researchers and fact checkers. Fuck me, there's nothing those people don't know!

CoffeeTableBook · 21/01/2019 00:50

YANBU!

scaryteacher · 21/01/2019 00:59

Would you jump off a cliff if he said so?

I ignored his stance on loans for university and we paid for ds to go. There was no point in racking up interest on a loan which we would have paid off when he left anyway.

I don't blindly trust anyone, not even dh. I trust, but verify.

Ignore Martin Lewis, support Brexit, and try to live the way we did in the 19th Century when we had an Empire.

halfwitpicker · 21/01/2019 02:26

Who is this fella

Monty27 · 21/01/2019 02:42

I think Martin Lewis is wonderful.
Don't know what is take on Brexit is though, I don't think that's his field Grin Grin

I think I recall at the time of the EU ref he said he didn’t like economic uncertainty and so was a Remainer.

Pity the rest of the country doesn't think more like Martin Lewis, we wouldn't be in the shit!

Fine to use ML as a starting point OP but also do your own research on some things just to make sure you agree. None of the things on your list such as changing your energy supplier is going to have a massive long term impact on your life, his team has done a lot of the legwork, so he's a reasonable and reliable choice.

Monty27 · 21/01/2019 04:46

daisychain01 thanks, I didn't know that.
I'm a staunch remained too.
I wish he could sort my finances out, and the robbing gits that rely on people's apathy like millions of us

What's his role at MSE now? I know he sold it for £60million but assume he's still at the helm?

Sirzy · 21/01/2019 05:01

I always tend to use him as a starting point for research because there is so much information out there it can be hard to know who to trust so I find him a trusted starting point.

NutElla5x · 21/01/2019 05:16

So you want our opinion on taking some one's opinion? Sorry,I'm not opinionated enough to say.
