To think this is a breach of data protection and confidentiality

Last term I had reason to have several meetings with the head at the largish school ( primary) my ds attends, mainly to do with some concerns I had about the quality of teaching in his class and the treatment of some children (ds included) by the teacher and ta. There was an email exchange too.
What has been eating away at me now since before Christmas is that among a group of friends not all connected to the school, the wife of one of the governors made comments about me and my ds that she could only have known if the contents of my emails and the conversations had been shared with her. She is not a governor nor anything remotely to do with the school apart from being a parent to a child in the same class as ds. AIBU to assume her husband has shared sensitive information with her and broken some GDPR rules, never mind the safe guarding aspect. I'm just a parent with no real professional experience of these things, but would appreciate any advice that anyone has as I would like to approach the school this week to try and get to the bottom of this. I''m cross and upset my son's 'stuff' has been shared from what I thought was a confidential conversation. Thanks.

If she has a child in the same class as yours she may well have got the information via some other route.

I really don't believe this is GDPR..... breach of confidentiality maybe if she was verbally told stuff that she has no concern to know

Yes it is absolutely a breach of confidentiality if a governor has discussed sensitive information about a pupil with his wife who has then blabbed said information back to the child's mother!

Its not a breach of GDPR regs. But it is a breach of gubernatorial confidentiality if the Governor has been chatting to his wife about school issues.

Hmmm, I'd contact the school and ask why she knows x,y and z. See what their reply is. Don't go in all guns blazing.... softly, softly and you'll get the info you need.
