Dog fouling

I know I'm not bu I'm just curious to know what mn thinks the solution is?
I live on a lovely new build estate that borders a national trust property and an estuary. Multiple public footpaths well used by joggers, kids on bikes, dog Walkers like I'm doing right now.

This area is the worst fouling I've ever seen it's shameless. Dog bins across the estate so it's not that!!! National trust dog bins. Council dog bins. I reckon there are up to 20 bins.

I've just shooed my dog away from a dad closely supervising a little boy pottering on a verge. The dad says oh it's ok it's not the dog I'm making sure he doesn't tread in the poo!!

Going to start bothering the local council. What can I suggest?

Between dog poo and rubbish, some folk care less and less about the state of the areas.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 20/01/2019 18:30

@EndoplasmicReticulum I bloody love your idea!!!!

It's bad here too at the moment, i almost ran my buggy through the biggest heap the other day - missed it by millimetres!!

sleepyhead · 20/01/2019 19:09

Our local green spaces absolutely stink of shit at the moment. Presumably the dogs trail it into their owners houses as well, both the responsible ones and the lazy gits.

bellabasset · 20/01/2019 20:07

JKCR2017 Cornwall Council has a dog fouling report system on their website. They request people use this so they can target areas of dog fouling

I don't have a dog now but occasionally take out my neighbour's dog. I use biodegradable dog bags which I put in a small beach bucket in a lavender scented bag. As I often walk on the beach I take a couple of little spades to ensure I can clean up loose mess. There are dog bins on the beach. However when I have to take the bags home I flush poo down the loo and put the used bags only in the dustbin.

You can tell there have been dogs given as Christmas gifts here, as all the paths have an extra amount of small dog shits on them. The arses. I was just saying to one of my clients, I bet I get blamed for the shit on the paths when I’m seen walking three or four dogs around the local area. It makes me so fucking angry that some of those that go “how can you/you can’t possibly control all those dogs”, as they walk along with their single dog is one of the wankers leaving it behind. I actually balled someone out that left shout on the path in front of me, one night and they turned around, I realised they had previously commented on the number of dogs I walk.

Twice this week I’ve had to pick up shit from the path in front of my house, so none of my clients step in it. I also put up a camera as some wanker kept through if filled shit bags into my front garden. Their response “but sure you’re a dog sitter!” They seriously thought that I wouldn’t mind going down my rather large garden, unconnected to the business, to pick up THEIR dog shit bags, because I pick up shit as part of my work. The fucking mind boggles!

StoneofDestiny · 21/01/2019 00:08

In areas that are really troublesome they need cctv cameras, plain clothed wardens and stinking big fines for offenders.
The money can be raised through dog licensing and compulsory register of owners.
It is clear dog fouling in some areas is a serious problem - and yes, the 'glued to the mobile phone' dog walker is the latest trend to avoid clearing up mess.........'oops, I didn't see it'. Joggers and dogs - I've yet to see a jogger jogging with a sack of dog shit...........curious.

I went blooming mental at my partner for leaving a dog poo full bag outside near the door this morning. I cant stand even looking at it hate it. I hate the cat poo in my garden its disgusting. Also where do you get nappy bags for 11p? I use sandwich bags. You can get cute little dog poo bag dispensers that clip on to leads too from poundland. In some places they have a guy with a hose suctiony thing on a moped. Dog poo used to be collected for tanning in the victorian times and could fetch a pretty penny. Perhaps some sort of reward scheme like nectar points would encourage people to pick it up.Grin

echt · 21/01/2019 00:31

There are suburbs in Melbourne where you're fined $200 on the spot if you can't produce poo bags when out with your dog.

All dogs and cats have to be registered each year with the council. All cats have to be de-sexed.

Deadbudgie · 21/01/2019 00:32

It drives me mad. Got up this morning some random and obviously large dog had pooed in the middle of our drive.

We always just pick up after ours, carry the bag til we find a bin (although was thinking of one of those dicky bagsfor longer walks - anyone got one?)

PositivelyPERF · 21/01/2019 16:09

@Deadbudgie

sleeplessinsomewhereelse said she uses them.

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 16:44

urgh, imagine using your dog to insult people like that, what the owner is saying is 'I shit on you'
like when a burgler defecates on your bed as a final insult before making off with your valuables

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 16:48

I could never do it, would never have a dog, they can be cute but it's just all about the shit isnt it

Sweetpotatoaddict · 21/01/2019 16:55

I can barely take my toddlers out without one of them getting shit on them. The worst was when my 2yr old when through an enormous soft mixed with hair dog shit on the pavement while on her balance bike. It splattered up from the wheel and right up her back. I changed her clothes and as I was trying to scrape the hairy shit off the wheel my larger toddler retched so much he was sick. Thanks dog owners, what have we done to deserve such a horror. Making owners roll in their dogs shit that they leave behind would be a suitable punishment in light of what they subject us to.

sleeplessinsomewhereelse · 21/01/2019 16:57

@Deadbudgie yes we have 2 dicky bags (one for DH and one for me)

They're really good and last FOREVER

Although as a pp pointed out you could use a bottle warmer cover.

The dicky bag has bags in the lid and a scented disc though Smile

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 16:57

there is significant public anger about the problem of dog fouling

spot102 · 21/01/2019 17:13

|'d like to know where you can get 11p poo bags from too. Best I can come up with is the £1 nappy sacks from the pound shop!

Have to confess though we have some roads round here with many signs exhorting you to remove dog poo, but no bins. Makes me very angry. Would clear it up anyway, but still, would be nice to have some.

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 17:19

why are you angry about the lack of bins?

when your dog shits it's your shit and you need to take it home with you

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 17:27

I wonder if photographing people in the act of not picking up and then sending to the local council is worth doing?

pigsDOfly · 21/01/2019 17:42

I like that Melbourne idea. I doubt anyone has ever been fined here so the threat of fines deters none of these disgusting dog owners.

Something I don't understand about a lot of dog owners is the amount of people who have asked me if I've got a spare poo bag on me as they only bring one out and they've used it. Why would you take a dog out for a walk and only take one poo bag, are they so heavy to carry?

I gave a couple to a man yesterday as I was finishing my walk with the dog in the park, he had just arrived and said he couldn't find any in his car. Make sure before you leave the house.

Why are people so useless. When I go out, whatever the reason; shopping, dog walking, hobby, I gather all the things I need before leaving home. Makes me wonder how some people get through their lives.

FiggyFudgePot · 21/01/2019 17:44

Shame the offending dog owners by shouting asking DO YOU NEED A BAG? and hand them a poo bag.
It annoys me when the professional dog owners with there umpteen dogs bag up the shit and leave it on the ground saying they collect all the bags on their way back. They don't. Worst of all is bagged up shit tied to tree branches or gate handles. Why do people do this? Angry

Queenofthedrivensnow · 21/01/2019 17:45

11p nappy bags in Morrisons

OP posts:
pigsDOfly · 21/01/2019 17:54

I've done that in the past when I've seen someone about to walk away from a poo Figgy, once from right across a park, but not very often unfortunately, as you rarely seem to actually catch them in the act.

One woman I asked, had two big dogs she was allowing to poo on grass that ran along the front of some houses near where I live and I walked down the path in order to ask her. She said, no it's all right I have some in my car, I'm going to get them.

I suspect she was lying and didn't come back, but short of following her to her car and waiting while she got them there wasn't a lot I could do.

I will pull people up on leaving their dogs' poo but I think stalking them to their cars is perhaps taking thing a bit far.

spot102 · 21/01/2019 17:55

Not my shit, my dogs!! And, as I said, I would have picked it up anyway.

Its very arrogant to put threatening signs up, but not have reasonable facilities in place. And, to be fair, doesn't exactly encourage people to pick up. I know we can and do carry it (and some don't), but I'm sure most of us would prefer to dispose of it as soon as possible. However, this problem is in a neighbouring council. In mine we have bins, which I use and appreciate.

pigsDOfly · 21/01/2019 18:02

It's your dog's poo though, Spot102. Why should councils have to provide bin in order for people to take responsibility for waste created by their dogs.

I'm grateful for the bins but I certainly don't think it's something that people have a right to expect.

My dog's poo, my problem.
