Aaggg so I had lower partial dentures fitted yesterday 4 teeth 2 either side.

Already I can flick it in & out with my tongue 😢

I can’t eat properly the feel of food under the pallet feels awful, I tried max hold poligrip tonight made no difference.

Feeling right sorry for myself tonight, right hand side of my tongue is sore. On the plus side guess it’s good for the weight loss!

Has anyone else had partial dentures how long did it take to get used to them? What foods did you eat?

Glad I take soup to work 😌

I have a denture for a single missing tooth. Had it fitted before Christmas but like you find it odd especially when eating. Now I put it in at night & take it out In the morning but yours sound more extensive.

My DM had a lower partial denture. Hers was quite tight and secure (although admittedly a different configuration to yours). I would go back to your dentist to see if an adjustment can be made.

You need to go back. The dentist can reline dentures and trim/ smooth bits down

There’s alsorts of things that can be done. Yours sound like a poor fit
Do you need them in to eat or can you manage without ?

It does take a little while to get used to them tho

Has your gum completely healed? If not it’ll take time.

I have partials top and bottom. The bottom I’ve always felt the need to use adhesive to just secure it as even tight it didn’t feel secure. Took me about 2 months to get used to it.

Top was easier. Just had to accept the assertions from everyone that the lisp I was convinced I had wasn’t audible to anyone else.

I've got one for a single tooth but getting a bridge fitted.
I hate my denture could not cope with it full time glad I've got the option of having a bridge.

Hi
I'm due to have a lower partial fitted on the 12/12 (my sons 11th birthday 😩) and I'm only 32, I have a condition where there is hardly any root in my gums so i have lost the lower right canine (eye tooth?) About 4 years ago And I have to have the left one (eye tooth) removed as it has started to have movement and I have had a back right molar removed years ago so I will be having a partial with 3 teeth on, since finding out I have been so emotional and has played havoc on my anxiety these next 4 weeks are going to kill me, I have so many questions that I didnt ask the dentist due to feeling ashamed and embarrassed, what will it look like, will I be able to adjust straight away as 2 are already gone for such a long time and the one there taking out should be so easy due to no root, can I sleep in it? I have a job that i have to interact and converse with people for 12 hours of the day will they notice, will I speak funny. Can i eat ok if there front teeth. My heads such a mess, I cry at least once a day I'm scared I wont adjust to them.

I have a single tooth (upper canine) on a plate. I am nearly 40 and have had it for maybe 15 years? Despite advice to the contrary I do wear it ALL the time. It was a bugger to get used to, I don’t remember how long it took now, sorry. I eat etc wearing it and also sleep with it in. This is mainly due to the fact that my DP doesn’t know about it (well I’ve never discussed it with him, I’ve had it since we have been together - maybe he knows but has never said anything) because I never mentioned it early on and as time has gone on it seems impossible to say anything through embarrassment mainly. I would love to get an implant (can’t have a bridge) but could probably never afford it. The amount I fret about my DP noticing is ridiculous! My current one (the one I wear every day) is a number of years old. I have about four in total but only this one is comfortable - my mouth feels really weird when it’s not in now rather than the other way round. It’s not a great fit and is held in with Fixodent, it would slip straight out without it. I keep meaning to try and wear the newest one in but I keep putting it off because of the hassle! I dread this one breaking! You can not tell at all by looking at my teeth, mainly because over time it has become exactly the same colour as mine.

With my last baby I had to have a c section and the worry I went through knowing they would ask me if I had any dentures in front of my DP was enormous. When they did ask I said I didn’t have any 🤣. I was willing to take the risk.

I have a full upper denture and partial on the bottom. You only flick at the start then it will settle. My bottom ones don’t move though when I eat

Marriedwife21 · 15/11/2019 16:09

Thankfully my DH has been amazing about it, he reassures me that it wont matter if I have 3 teeth missing but i cant help but still feel embarrassed, I have visions of us kissing and it falling out 😯. I'm trying to picture what it will look like. As I'm only having the 1 tooth out I cant imagine there will be a lot of swelling. Could I wear fixondent on the first day? Were supposed to be taking my son out for a birthday meal that night which I'm now regretting.
