I have had a cold for about three weeks now. Mucous is clear but have I lost all sense of smell and taste.

My friend said it can take months to return ?

What!

Will it ever return? Has anybody had any experience of this?

Frequently, usually comes back after a couple of days. It's horrible though, a steamy hot bath might help.

Thanks am on day 7 of no smell but nose isn't blocked.

I lost it for 2-3 weeks once but it came back just fine!

I've not been able to do either since December 3rd. I've had very small instances of being able to taste, but no sense of smell at all. It's driving me mad but I've got used to it, a little.

Had a loss of smell AND taste for about 14-15 days once. Horrid it was! Came back as quickly as it went though. Couldn't taste my food at ALL on the Monday evening, then Tuesday morning, I could taste my strawberry yogurt at breakfast time. Weird.

Hope yours comes back soon.

Thanks all.

My Dad is 70. He said his has gone completely. Agghh

It takes any pleasure from eating. Oh well I needed to lose weight.

I had this once. The tissues at the top of my nose were a bit swollen I think even though I could breathe clearly. It came back gradually but was a while (a few weeks tbh)before it was right again. I was recommended a salt water nose spray (Sterimar) to help drain the excess fluid from the tissues.
Funnily I enough I had the same kind of thing again (a cold that affected my head more than my chest) recently and it happened again but didn’t last as long. Don’t worry.

I have chronic sinusitis and have lost most of my sense of smell and taste for about 6 months at its worst Sad it was miserable. I needed a steroid spray to ease my swollen sinuses.

Thanks

6 months sounds awful. There is the panic it will never come back like my Dad's didn't.
