To ask how many hours you work?

I have just started my own business and currently have enough clients to give me around 15 hours of work a week. DH works full time and come home at 7pm every evening. I do everything around the house, everything for our 3 children, but now don't know how many hours I should be working? I am gradually getting more and more clients but not sure how many hours would be the optimum when combining work with my other responsibilities?

35 hours and my husband 40. We have 1 DC. I'd keep going, grow the business and get a cleaner. We have a cleaner it's the best thing you'll ever do.

Turquoisetamborine · 19/01/2019 18:58

I have two kids, the youngest being three and work 25 hours. My husband works four longer days a week. I feel like this is the maximum I could work at present without being stressed and the house falling to bits.

Vanillamanilla1 · 19/01/2019 19:01

Dp about 40+ hours a week
Me about 35 ish .. sometimes 42 hours if I pick up optional Saturday evening bar work i do now and again for extra

shirleyschmidt · 19/01/2019 19:03

30 hours a week, give or take. 2 very young DCs.
DH works c.50.

Nquartz · 19/01/2019 19:03

DH 37.5/40 roughly, me 24 1 DC. DH drops off at breakfast club, I finish at 2 to pick up from school & have one day off for housework etc.

I have a friend in a similar situation as you, I think she works about 20.

tictoc76 · 19/01/2019 19:05

Both full time , 4 young children and life is hectic.

isseywithcats · 19/01/2019 19:06

DP different hours depending on time of year hes a lecturer so more hours some times of semesters than others
me 28 hours a week and do all the domestic stuff

Celebelly · 19/01/2019 19:07

Remember that hours spent working and hours spent at work are not always the same thing. Most people who, say, work in an office for eight hours a day are not doing eight hours of solid work.

I work from home and my billable hours are hours I'm actually doing work. Even though I do less billable hours than the hours I did when I worked full time in an office, I probably do more actual 'work'.

Remember and count admin time, marketing time, professional development, etc.

Racheyg · 19/01/2019 19:09

2 dc's 5 and 3 1/2
Dh works 35 hours a week over 5 days, I work 26 hours a week over 3.

Don't have a Cleaner or anything. I'm not going back full time when dc2 starts school in September either.

Helpmeltb · 19/01/2019 19:11

Single parent, 39 hours per week plus on call 24/7 one week in four. Have the 2 kids four nights a week.

House is generally a tip. I've got used to lower standards Blush

yoyo1234 · 19/01/2019 19:11

Me 37.5 hrs per week. DH a lot ( maybe 80ish a week on average hard to define). All seems okay ( no cleaner etc).

Youmadorwhat · 19/01/2019 19:13

Work hours 9.00 -2.40 but I arrive for 8.45 and leave latest 3.30.

I have 2 DC’s also.

yoyo1234 · 19/01/2019 19:14

DH has a similar on call arrangement as helpmeltb

Cookit · 19/01/2019 19:15

40, just standard full time. DP works more like 55 though.

blibblibs · 19/01/2019 19:15

DH about 42hrs sometimes as much as 60. Me 30hrs. Two late primary DC.
Works well for us and no childcare costs except for school holidays.

WorriedMum11 · 19/01/2019 19:17

I do 28 hours 2 days in office and 2 from home - most days I will need to catch up in evenings.

Have a hands on DH who works 8-6 and gets home at 7. He'll help or do most breakfast and beds time - I'll do the activities /homework and general admin/running around.

We share the cooking.

Both of us could end up having longer days. It's the most hectic when we have stuff on at weekends and then fall behind on clothes washing between the both of us we get it done - I.e he'll put a wash on early or I'll get a few done on a Friday when I have the morning off.

We have a cleaner who comes 2-3 hours a week she's expensive but worth her weight in gold! House being clean keeps our stress levels down

AnnabelleLecter · 19/01/2019 19:19

Me 20+ hrs a week. Plus 90% house stuff so weekends are free.
DH 40 cutting down to 20 from April in preparation for early retirement.

Croprotationinthe14thcentury · 19/01/2019 19:19

46 hrs p/wk from home so no commute. 4 long days (10.5 hrs) and 1 short day (4 hrs) term time only

TheSheepofWallSt · 19/01/2019 19:20

LP to a 2yo.
Contracted 37.5 - contractually I work 4 full days in the office (30 hours) make up the rest at home.

Actually what happens is I do 30 hours in the office and most weeks between 8 and 20 hours at home.
Plus more at project delivery times.
Plus occasional travel.

I don’t have any help (au pairs, cleaners or laundry). I have occasional help from DM
Or ExDP when have to I travel.

Lotsofsausage · 19/01/2019 19:20

45 hours per week. DH about the same but also works away a lot. it's hard.

Babbabump · 19/01/2019 19:21

I work 35 hours a week on a 8-4 or 9-5 shift Monday to Friday. I also have 2 horses which i feed in the morning and sort in the evening and do the school run too - I'm very busy haha and wouldn't like to work anymore but need the pennies so can't work any less :)

Croprotationinthe14thcentury · 19/01/2019 19:22

No cleaner. I clean top to bottom on my short day and try to keep on top of the washing during the week.

Maneandfeathers · 19/01/2019 19:24

I do 20 and DH about 60.

I couldn’t work more until DC are all at school as financially childcare would cripple us!

lanbro · 19/01/2019 19:25

I have 2 dc, 5&6, and 2 businesses, I work around 60 hours in one and only 1 or 2 in the other. I only have my dc half the week so cram in more hours when I don't have them. Paid someone to clean my house top to toe before Christmas and just try and keep on top of it. I need to work those hours to build the business up, in time I should be able to employ more staff and drop down my hours. When you have your own business you basically need to do what it takes to make a good profit!

ClanoftheCaveBear · 19/01/2019 19:27

Currently 20 but about to increase to 24.
1 school age DS. We have a cleaner and basically I do a lot of housework/ childcare/ cooking/ shopping/ washing/ life admin on my 2 free days and DH does a lot on the other 3. At weekends we’re fairly equal.
I’m too tired on work days to do much.
