Please help, anyone know what this is?

DD (2.5) had these little bumps on her side near the armpit that look like pimples. Then her arm by the armpit is angry sore with some of those pimples. Any ideas what it is?

Looks like Molluscum contagiosum. Both my 2 had them. I sat it out, didn’t treat them and their immune systems sorted them in the end.

Start of the chickenpox?

She's had a couple for weeks now but there's more and her arm looks so sore.

It looks like molluscum contagiosum which is a very minor viral infection. It is very common and usually the spots come for a few months, then flare up and leave. Look it up. If this is what it is there is no need whatsoever to treat. If it is not this then see your Dr.

It's definitely Molluscum. I've had it as an adult. It's very, very common in children and it's very contagious. Nothing to worry about though. It won't cause any issues. If it does pop to the GP. It usually passes of its own accord in a month or two. If not they may need to be frozen off.

Def molluscum! You can buy sth over the counter if they really bother you but it's expensive. They will go away by themselves

Oh yes! Molluscum contagiosum! It's a pain and takes ages for them to go! But at least it's nothing nasty! :) Good luck!

My 2 DC both have this currently and it took me ages to figure out what it was. I've since discovered it's really common so I don't know why it's not talked about more.

I was happy to let it run its course, but older DC is now suffering, saying it's very sore and uncomfortable. The spots and the skin around them are also very red now.

Is it worth a GP trip or is there something I can try over the counter?

Clairedunphy when the spots flare up is often when the body is mounting a concerted effort to get rid of the infection and you might find that they disappear in a few days/ week or two. If however they are red and sore the alternative is a secondary infection from itching the spots or knocking them so a trip to the gp would not be wrong

I totally had to hold my nerve on it because the spots looked sore and well meaning relatives kept mentioning doctors, creams and antibiotics. It needed none of these but was a journey!

My two DSs also has Molly’s I’m, one all over his front, one all over his back. They lasted a good six months each. Went away on their own eventually. It’s one of those things where after an interminable period, the body suddenly recognises they shouldn’t be there and starts to get rid of them. In our case, they turned dark red and scanned then disappeared. Ds1 loves picking them at that stage, they bled a lot. He has tiny hardly noticeable scars, little dips where they were. Weird. Watch out for school/nursery panicking when they see them, they are contagious, but not anything to worry about. I remember nursery calling me in a panic when they noticed ds2’s at a nappy change. He’d had them for months by that point.

molloscum!

My two had this when in early years of primary school. No one seems to talk much about it but I was amazed when I mentioned it to other mums and they said their children had had it too! Apparently really easy to pick up from swimming.... I tried silver spray on theirs but to be honest it eventually goes on its own but it's hard to be patient! X Most contagious when they pop - mind you don't pick it up too. X

Yep molluscum virus, ds had them for 10 months a couple of years ago, they can get bigger, angrier, burst/bleed and easily spread to other parts, can scar.

We used little plasters when any of ds's burst to try to reduce spreading. After 10 months his torso/arm was covered and lots of angry ones, then they all suddenly cleared up within a couple of weeks.

Is she bothered by them? They can sometimes be complicated by secondary infection, if you put a photo of the angry sore part, we can see if there are signs of infection. Otherwise the photos are showing typical molluscum.

Definitely molloscum. My DD had them all over her forehead at that age. Unsightly but harmless and you just have to wait for them to go (around 6 months in DDs case)

Definitely molloscum! Took DD to dr for that last week. Nothing to worry about, will go on its own (but could take months).

Definitely Molluscum Contagiosum. (Water Warts.) This is highly contagious, though - hence the name. (Also known as water pox in some parts.) It is a virus related to wart virus. (Inside the blistery things is a core containing the virus - they can be excised and squeezed out, but don't touch them. You can speed up the healing process by doing this and applying strong benzoyl peroxide and/or salicylic acid, but your DD is very little and might not be very compliant. Mine was 8, and understood what was going on, so took it well.) Each time one of the blisters pops, the little core comes out and spreads it further. While it does go away by itself eventually, the blisters rub, and it hurts. You also need to make sure you keep towels and bathing bits and pieces away from separate and washed daily to avoid contamination. Read about it online so you know what you're dealing with.

If it's contagious she shouldn't mix with ppl that may be vulnerable. I've never heard of it but I would deffo see a GP as it probably needs treatment.

Don't worry about her mixing with vulnerable people. Yes they're contagious if people are using the same towels etc as a PP said but it won't harm anyone who has it if they catch it anyway. I was told by my GP that they won't usually treat them until they've been given the opportunity to go of their own accord first as they usually do. If not they will freeze them.

My DS and Dd have both had them. DS mainly on his back so he couldn't see them or touch/burst them and as some disappeared new ones would appear but never more than I'd say a dozen at a time. They probably lasted 6 months. With DD they were on her front and legs and I noticed they were spreading and increasing in number. I started to recognise when they were ready to pop and put a plaster over them so she couldn't rub/scratch and spread the infection herself. I think it definitely helped.
