Have you seen the Gillette commercial everybody is talking about? The one which list a number of negative things associated with manliness such as violence or sexual harrasment. I do not think they are wrong. Unfortunately there are menlike this but

What are the positive things you associate with manliness.

I think of
-protectiveness
-self-sacrifice
-loyality
-stoicism
-being a hard worker discipline

Not saying that women cannot have that traits. A lot of us do... but all of that are connected to a traditional male role and are positive in my mind... and with that I do not wasn’t to say that a woman traditionally could not have those virtues.

Beards. Preferably ginger.

Zoomzoomzoomzoom0 · 18/01/2019 19:38

I do most of the other stuff mentioned myself. But I don't have a beard
(my bum is a little hairy though.... Blush)

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 18/01/2019 19:40

Manly bingo Grin

dementedma · 18/01/2019 19:42

exquisite good manners
rolled up shirt sleeves exposing a manly forearm swoon
broad chest for leaning in to

I'm guilty of major stereotyping here huh?

sackrifice · 18/01/2019 20:56

Patience to sort screws, tacks and nails meticulously by size and arrange in labelled glass jars in the garage.

Women's toolboxes can be just as neat. I know mine is.

sackrifice · 18/01/2019 20:59

take a lawn mower to be serviced

This is an eye opener. I never knew I was so 'manly'. I have two lawnmowers and two sheds, so must be doubly 'manly'.

What a load of old actual bollocks this thread is.

PestymcPestFace · 18/01/2019 21:01

Sack lawn mowers can only be truly controlled by a penis.

BinkyBuntyFintyCunty · 18/01/2019 21:07

Bit of hair poking out of top of shirt.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 18/01/2019 21:15

Sponges.

Enough that should the world end he could still wash his car.

He knows someone in our local Halfords that he now gets their discount. Ye gods!

Probably hairy muscle-y calves and thighs ( testosterone driven?)
Complete inability to give a s* about having/not having friends, social life, invited to parties.
Managing to look homeless as refuse any assistance with fashion/clothes
Excellent at all jar opening, garbage bin emptying and reading instructions before DIY.

Did anyone say they couldn't? Confused
The pp was saying it was something they associated with it.

Did you just do a NAWALT? Grin

Meangirls36 · 18/01/2019 23:32

Cooking dinner I think is very manly and being good with children and animals. Being able to grow things and fixing things. Bf fixed the boiler the other day my hero!

Auntiepatricia · 18/01/2019 23:36

Urgh. This whole thread just feels off.

moredoll · 18/01/2019 23:37

Strong arms, confidence and barbeques.

Klopptimist · 18/01/2019 23:38

It does Auntie, it does. Could you imagine a thread where men are discussing being a good cook, having big boobs and a tight vag as positive womanly characteristics?

MsMustDoBetter · 18/01/2019 23:47

Beards can be quite nice.

Auntiepatricia · 18/01/2019 23:48

Thanks Kloop, glad its not just me. It was too late to really read and think what was so depressing about this but you’re right. That’s it.

GlitterStick · 18/01/2019 23:49

Forgot DIY. That's another one.

Mynydd · 18/01/2019 23:53

I just typed a lost a long reply that can be summed up as:
Urgh. Hope to fuck my boys don't grow up feeling that society expects them to be stoic protective and brave.
This thread is full of some major bullshit. Ffs, give over with the manly shit already.

Also - when I was younger and more easily seduced with this kind of bullshit I did spend time with men who made sure I knew how 'protective' they were. That shit does not end well!!!! A man who feels that he needs to protect his woman is usually protecting her from other men. Because she belongs to him. Stay away from men like that

ApplesAndPearsStairs · 18/01/2019 23:54

Why are men so good at self sacrifice? I'm in love with one who is very into this!! I haven't come across it before... maybe all of my partners have been selfish. I'm intrigued if anyone can shed some light please?

Auntiepatricia · 18/01/2019 23:55

Christ on a bike apples! Lol!

Flyingfish2019 · 18/01/2019 23:56

Applespearsandstairs To give an example: lots of men work long hours in a job they do not like very much do that their families can have a nice life.
If course there are women like that too... but to be very honest... just thinking of the people I know... I think men are more likely to act that way then women.

Capable, strong, providing, protective.

Toxic masculinity seems to have got to the point where all that is being seen as soft as ckarts, though. Nothing less than dickhead will do, and many mn threads back that up.

PickAChew · 19/01/2019 00:01

Clarts.

jenelleyg · 19/01/2019 00:05

zoomzoomzoom I honestly read that and though I'd written it, I too am obsessed eith ginger beards Grin
