...to get a Honda Jazz?

I am not retired.
But, I quite like the look of it, it's like the old Mercedes A class, and it's apparently very reliable and practical and the inside is so clever.
But then again, I look at what else I could get for the same money and wonder if I'd regret it.

My mum has one. It's practical and spacious and reliable.

But it is boring as fuck and I loathe driving it (on the few occasions I've needed to) 😂😂

SleepingBooty · 17/01/2019 19:06

My Mun loves hers.

5 (five) members of my family have one, including me. I like it! Spacious, easy to have people in the back or put the seats flat, not too small, but not too big on the outside so easy to manoeuvre/park.

Downside: finding it in a street full of identical cars!

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 17/01/2019 19:08

My Mum's on her third Grin

MakeItRain · 17/01/2019 19:08

My next car's going to be a Honda Jazz. I love Hondas! But I guess I'm not exactly young and trendy Grin

ChasedByBees · 17/01/2019 19:09

I love the Honda Jazz.

This is a super helpful post for me. When I go to car sales rooms, I never get shown what I’m looking for, but “imagine I’m 80” might be the phrase that helps me find my dream car.

OnceUponAGiraffe · 17/01/2019 19:09

My husband is, er, super cool and bought one brand new aged 24. 13 years later it is still going strong and he is still lowering the average age of a jazz driver.

fartingsparkles · 17/01/2019 19:09

I' d suggest looking at a Hyundai ix20. Similar, and lovely to drive

justaguy · 17/01/2019 19:10

Do it. I’ve just got rid of mine after 10 years and I’m bereft. I got it when I was in my late 20s and endured the good-natured jokes from friends and family but it was such a brilliant car. Carried everything you could think of. I particularly liked putting my foot down at the lights and surprising people who thought I’d be a doddery pensioner!

ChristmasFlary · 17/01/2019 19:11

Have had 4 Jazz's. My current one is 11yrs old. I'm only 21yrs 42

FreezerBird · 17/01/2019 19:11

We had one when the kids were little. Loved it so much, and was gutted when we got to the point we really did need a bigger car.

Really miss driving it, especially in the lanes round here, it was fab.

localfluff · 17/01/2019 19:11

They can't do more than 40mph. At least none of the ones I end up stuck behind do.

Thisonewilldo · 17/01/2019 19:13

I learned to drive in one and it was great.

lanbro · 17/01/2019 19:14

My mum had a couple then my gran by one so my mum got rid of hers because she didn't want to drive an old lady car! Unless you need the driving position why not go for a Civic?

mbosnz · 17/01/2019 19:15

I loved my little Jazz. And no, it could go like the clappers - was also fabulously manouvrable, had great boot space, and ran on the smell of an oily rag. Comfy too. (It was a leedle bit underpowered. . .)

OrchidInTheSun · 17/01/2019 19:17

Awful to drive. If you enjoy driving, steer well clear. It's probably great if you view driving as a necessary evil.

Enigmam · 17/01/2019 19:18

We have one, DH chose it after doing months of research. It's reliable, spacious and it's rated second after the Porsche 911, as most likely to pass its MOT.

LadyLannister · 17/01/2019 19:19

I had a Jazz, fantastic car - really reliable ( much more so than the Mini Cooper I have now ). Loads of space inside for the kids and a decent boot that fit my double buggy in no problem. I think I might get one again when I change cars.

FraterculaArctica · 17/01/2019 19:20

We used to have a Nissan note which is kind of similar but I think the Note is better. Less tinny but equally practical. Worth thinking about?

TiddleTaddleTat · 17/01/2019 19:20

I've got one and I'm not middle aged/elderly!

@justaguy can I ask what prompted you to give yours up after 10 years? Ours is 10 years old and in the garage requiring an expensive brake repair (rear callipers have basically fused to the brake pads - or something). It's only done 50k but I'm wondering if it's worth the repair or if we should cut and run

Has been very cheap and reliable up til now, though I'd agree that it's not great at high speeds and is quite sluggish (although our current issue might be skewing my judgement somewhat)

Eatcabbage · 17/01/2019 19:20

Lol to some of these.
I drive very sensibly. I stick to speed limits. When I test drove one, the salesman said "It probably won't do quite so many mpg when you are driving it normally, when I'm not in the car and you don't feel like you are on your driving test." I pointed out that I was driving normally, for me.
Even I got it up to 70 though.

Awful gearbox (well, the auto one anyway). Kept trying to kill me by jumping out of gear on roundabouts, usually when I lorry was bearing down on me. Vile car.

DD had one for a month as a courtesy car when her Sirion was written off recently. She absolutely hated it.

Ladymargarethall · 17/01/2019 19:23

I had a Jazz. It was ok. I had a lot of trouble with the aircon. I had to have it regassed twice in two years which has never been necessary in any other car I have had.

Ifangyow · 17/01/2019 19:24

My 96 year old F.I.L has one.
Just sayin....
