I am not retired.
But, I quite like the look of it, it's like the old Mercedes A class, and it's apparently very reliable and practical and the inside is so clever.
But then again, I look at what else I could get for the same money and wonder if I'd regret it.

I had one and was the best car, was 12 years old by the time I sold it and had done well over 100,000 miles. So reliable and if anything did go wrong, was easy to replace and cheap. V economical and spacious! Plus I was in my 20s when I got it!!

walkingtheplank · 17/01/2019 19:33

I'm on my 3rd one since 2006. None of mine have ever broken down. It's easy to park and is surprisingly spacious inside. Lots of very nice features in my latest one which has CVT transmission - it's a joy to drive.
I'm a town driver so haven't tried it on motorway. I expect it will be sluggish/noisy.
It's the least flash car at school pick up but at least it actually gets me there and it squeezes into spaces thst 4x4s can't. It also has better spec than a lot of far more expensive cars.
I did look at getting a HRV instead but it was no bigger on the inside.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/01/2019 19:38

My brother has one, he got it off my 95 year old Grandpa when he stopped driving 🙄

However I can't really talk as my last car was a Meriva 😊

SittHakim · 17/01/2019 19:42

YANBU. We have one, so does my mum (virtually the same model, so it's really easy for me to drive her car when I'm visiting). We've had no problems at all, and we've had it nearly seven years.

But I am one of those people who regards driving as a necessary evil, and I don't suppose it's great if you do a lot of motorway driving. We're mainly town drivers.

fedupandlookingforchange · 17/01/2019 19:45

I love mine, very spacious when the seats are folded flat, easy to park, reliable, cheap to run and if you drive it right quite nippy. It's fine on the motorway.
It wasn't my choice of car but its ticked almost every box and grown on me, if only they made an estate version.

hatethinkingofusernames · 17/01/2019 19:47

I'm 27 and have had one for years 😂I've just got the newest one the red one with black wheels- my husband brought it while I wasn't there 🙄 only thing is he stupidly didn't put a rear end camera in so first day I had it I reversed into a bollard, the sensors were screaming at me too. Other than that though I love it! I do prefer his car which parks it's self though. I really want that one

hatethinkingofusernames · 17/01/2019 19:47

It's also super fast and smooth and the back seats collapse both ways so you get an extra extra big boot it's amazing!

Eatcabbage · 17/01/2019 19:54

I hoped it wasn't just me!
I found one with leather seats, (incidental, wasn't looking for them). Not sure about the morality of that, being a veggie, but I'm not buying them new. Would they be silly though in a Jazz, or a good idea given the child / dog usage it's going to get?

MaxTeyon · 17/01/2019 20:02

It's also super fast

I think you might be on glue! But OP, get one they’re not exciting but a reliable, economical, quality product.

CAAKE · 17/01/2019 20:04

I recently bought an older Jazz for commuting. Its all pp says it is - spacious yet diddy, reliable, good on fuel.

The only thing that's ever gone wrong with it is that I left the lights on once and the battery went flat. The AA man who came to my rescue told me that he's done the job for 15 years and the only time he's ever been called out to a broken down jazz is when someone has left the lights on and run the battery down!

LonelyAmongUs · 17/01/2019 20:08

They're fucking horrible cars, especially the automatic ones. I've seen more finese on a flymo, terrible handling and cheap interiors.

There's a special place in hell for anyone who drives these fuckers.

HexagonalBattenburg · 17/01/2019 20:11

I'm considering one - I had an older A Class incidentally and it was a brilliant car for what I needed, currently have a Nissan Note which again does the job but is nearing a large repair bill just on the age of it - so I'm trying to plan ahead and it's probably the front runner... I am utterly indifferent to "old persons car" type stuff though - if it goes around town well and has a stereo that's ok to listen to the radio on and has a nice cup holder for coffee then that's about my car wish list sorted these days.

OhGoshNearlyForty · 17/01/2019 20:12

We have one!! Had it for around 8 years! It was already about 8 years old or older when we bought it. It's done 200k!!! Unfortunately, it will not die!!! And is super reliable!!! Which means we r stuck with it for a few more years I'd say!! I'm ready for a change!!! But have to admit, it's been a good car! Goes pretty fast! Very spacious! V reliable! Honda's are v good cars!

We regularly play 'guess the age of the Jazz driver!' (easily amused!!) on family trips! (And it's rarely under 70!) But if you don't mind feeling a bit old, the Jazz is great!

HexagonalBattenburg · 17/01/2019 20:15

After I bought my Note both my mum and step father liked it so much they went and bought one! Looked a right bunch when all the family were together with three matching cars on the drive!

OhGoshNearlyForty · 17/01/2019 20:15

Oh... And if the 95 yr olds are driving them, I'd say that's a good sign! At 95 you know your stuff! And wisdom comes with age!! I think the old guys have it sussed!!

bollocksitshappenedagain · 17/01/2019 20:15

I have a sport version - love it! Spacious and practical. I'm on my second one - first one lasted to 13 years with no major issues. Would probably get another after this one.

5FullFathoms · 17/01/2019 20:18

The handling is pretty terrible and the air con was always going wrong. But they’re practical and fuel efficient. You could do a lot worse!

hatethinkingofusernames · 17/01/2019 20:19

@MaxTeyon no honestly it's so fast! I think it's the sport one.

Suziepoozie · 17/01/2019 20:20

I love my jazz - lots of room in the back for doing car seats, maaaaaasive boot and really comfy seats. Mine’s from 2011 and it’s brilliant

LiquoriceAllsorts086 · 17/01/2019 20:26

The best car I've ever owned. Ridiculously reliable, massive boot space and surprisingly nippy. I had to get a bigger car or I would still have it now.

MaxTeyon · 17/01/2019 20:28

@hate it’s really not fast I’m afraid, if you think it is then you’ve clearly never been in a fast car lol

HugeAckmansWife · 17/01/2019 20:31

Another vote for the Note, though they don't make them anymore but if you can pick up one 2nd hand I would. Go for the original shape though, it's higher and more spacious than the newer shape.

TopicalUseOnly · 17/01/2019 20:38

Loved mine; only gave it up because DC have inherited their height from DH and it got to the point when they all needed more legroom.

It was good in town. Parked easily (unlike our current monster). Not really built to be comfy on motorways, but got along them OK.

It was an automatic, bought new 10 years ago. Very reliable.

One downside was that other drivers assume you're going to be slow and VERY unassertive. Nobody wants to let you out; everybody tries to nip in ahead of you, etc etc. When I switched to a 4x4 I was amazed how much the attitudes of other drivers instantly changed towards me!

EdWinchester · 17/01/2019 20:40

It is an old lady car, but my mil and mum have them and they are very nice, if a bit incredibly dull.

AliTheMinx · 17/01/2019 20:41

I've got one. It may not be the coolest looking car, but it's super reliable and feels safe. Tonnes of room inside, and I love the boot space and fold-down seats. It's pretty economical and a lot nippier than it looks.
