AIBU?

If anyone has a toaster that fits a standard size slice of bread (without having to cut the crusts off!)

We've had various toasters over the years - our current one is a 'Breville' 2 slice.

Like I do everyday - I have just had to cut the bottom crusts off the Kingsmill 'Best of both' medium sliced bread.

The alternative is to drop it in as it is (shorter edge at the bottom) and then flip it over to toast the top when the lower half is done.

If anyone can point me in the direction of one that will fit normal Bread, then I would be very grateful.

Thanks

We have this one. We’ve had it for years and years and it is still looking good and going strong. It fits all sizes of bread without any bits sticking out. I love it.

How odd! Is Warburtons especially big?

I’ve a Bosch four slice and never suffered this horrific situation 😮. Not in the UK, so no Warbutons. I know slices are bigger than they were in the olden days, so XL compared to the 70s, but is British bread XXL? (I say 70s, but not actually sure when the bread slice grew.)

I cut the slices in half and toast two halves at a time.

Another vote for this cheap Asda toaster which I bought for exactly the same reason.

I hate this. Ds's now like the Aldi malted bloomer, which is huge. But even before then this used to drive me wild. Such stupid design. Why aren't designers designing for what we actually WANT? Angry

Just use the grill - fits all shapes and sizes of bead!

JustDanceAddict · 18/01/2019 08:06

I flip it

Cheap Tesco 4 slice, fits 4 slices of any bread, albeit landscape. I have never had this problem Hmm

I have found my people!
It infuriates be every day that my Warburtons ‘Toastie’ loaf does not fit in my toaster. Have to do the turning the toast upside down to toast the top bit thing. Then 9 times out of 10 I get distracted and the whole slice burns.
Why don’t bread manufacturers check what size they should make a toastie loaf?

tillytrotter1 · 18/01/2019 08:23

We have a Sainsbury's own make 4 slot toaster and it fits our bread, Hovis multigrain, quite a big slice, it might need a bit of a shove to get it in but once it's in it toasts all over.

RedForShort · 18/01/2019 08:45

I've just come back to say I lied. It's not a Bosch (that's the kettle- such easy things to muddle up!). I've no clue what make it is!! No name on it.

@JustDanceAddict read the thread as it's been explained.

Thanks again everyone - and thanks for all the links to your various recommendations, which is much appreciated.
