To expect a Toaster that fits Normal slices of bread?

AIBU?

If anyone has a toaster that fits a standard size slice of bread (without having to cut the crusts off!)

We've had various toasters over the years - our current one is a 'Breville' 2 slice.

Like I do everyday - I have just had to cut the bottom crusts off the Kingsmill 'Best of both' medium sliced bread.

The alternative is to drop it in as it is (shorter edge at the bottom) and then flip it over to toast the top when the lower half is done.

If anyone can point me in the direction of one that will fit normal Bread, then I would be very grateful.

Thanks

We put bread in “landscape” in ours as well.

wigglepig · 17/01/2019 13:56

The own brands from Asda or Tesco I think fit them and willow

dot91 · 17/01/2019 13:56

The Asda basic £11 toaster fits warburtons bread

I've got a four slice Breville and my daughter moans all the time about the bread not fitting. Drives me mad!

BelfastSmile · 17/01/2019 14:03

When I become Prime Minister, the first thing I'll do is create a standard size for a slice of bread, and then require all manufacturers of toasters, sliced ham etc to base their production lines on this value.

This problem has irritated me for years.

DGRossetti · 17/01/2019 14:08

I wonder if all toasters are made to take a "euro-slice" ?

If so, this might be the one issue which can unite Remainers and Leavers ? Brexit and take control of our (toast) borders again.

BikeRunSki · 17/01/2019 14:11

This was my rant, until we got a Dualit about 3 months ago. I expect it to outlive me at the price it cost!

BertieBotts · 17/01/2019 14:13

But if you flip it halfway, not only is it annoying to have to stand there and flip it, it gets burnt in the middle.

Delilah21D00LoT · 17/01/2019 14:13

Thank you everyone for your replies - I'm glad it's not just me!

To smellyhouseelf RandomUsernameHere SaucyJack and anyone else thinks that I should just turn the toast landscape - My point was that landscape OR portrait it DOES NOT FIT!

Landscape means I have to cut the crusts off the ends. Portrait means the top sticking out the end and then having to to flip and re-toast.

We don't buy the same Brand each time - various Supermarket brands, Warburtons, Hovis, Kingsmill - you name, it we've tried it.

The only Bread that I've found that fits well is Warburtons fruit loaf.

Thanks everyone.

I live in Europe and the bread is exactly the same size. So I don't think it is that.

Oh get away with you and your facts .... Grin

If you have to do that, you may as well go old school and use the grill.

Of course the real answer is a catering toaster that has a conveyor belt ...

BertieBotts · 17/01/2019 14:20

God DH would love a catering toaster. I don't know how he eats so much toast.

The sliced bread here is shit anyway so I just don't eat toast any more.

greenelephantscarf · 17/01/2019 14:20

we have a wfm fricking expensive toaster.
was the only one that fitted a whole slice, albeit lenthwise.

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 17/01/2019 14:23

I've got the Asda toaster too Fstar - bought it in the sale just after Christmas. It's ace - so far I've not found any bread the doesn't fit into it, and it does crumpets and bagels as well Smile

Firesuit · 17/01/2019 14:26

We have yet to have a toaster that fits any bread!! Why??

I read a review of toasters many years ago and it was stated that almost all models of toasters are designed for the world market, and UK bread is bigger than the manufacturers plan for. In the review the only toaster that would toast the whole of a UK slice was a special model made by Philips.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 17/01/2019 14:28

Ours fits in landscape, I carried it to the bread aisle, opened it and held the Warburton loaf beside it to check, I think people thought I was losing the plot it's a brabantia from Morrison's

BertieBotts · 17/01/2019 14:30

It never used to be like that, though. I reckon it was about 2002 that it changed. Harumph.

Firesuit · 17/01/2019 14:33

I've just checked, and ironically mine is a Philips. Just not the special model, apparently.

Honeyroar · 17/01/2019 14:35

We should all complain each time we buy them. It's ridiculous. They must be well aware that toasters sold in the uk don't fit uk bread.

HidingFromMyKids · 17/01/2019 14:36

We use jacksons bread due to soya allergies but a slice is huge. I don't think there is a toaster on earth that it would fit into.
I have to turn it but often forget and burn it.

Firesuit · 17/01/2019 14:38

I'm getting the £11 Asda one this weekend. My Philips one can bugger off to the charity shop.

DGRossetti · 17/01/2019 14:41

We should all complain each time we buy them.

Our solution was simply not to buy one Sad

Honeyroar · 17/01/2019 14:44

Well yes, of course that's the other option, but they're actually selling things that aren't fit for purpose in this country, so we should be complaining, whereas we just cut the crusts off and let them get away with it..
