To expect a Toaster that fits Normal slices of bread?

AIBU?

If anyone has a toaster that fits a standard size slice of bread (without having to cut the crusts off!)

We've had various toasters over the years - our current one is a 'Breville' 2 slice.

Like I do everyday - I have just had to cut the bottom crusts off the Kingsmill 'Best of both' medium sliced bread.

The alternative is to drop it in as it is (shorter edge at the bottom) and then flip it over to toast the top when the lower half is done.

If anyone can point me in the direction of one that will fit normal Bread, then I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Pics for you all.

Pic 1 - Standard Asda slice.
Pic 2 - Portrait - top sticks out.
Pic 3 - Landscape - will not fit unless I chop off a crust.

I have a Morphy Richards Evoke after using one in a holiday cottage and being amazed it fitted our bread! We have Warburtons Farmhouse bread and it fits fine if you put the bread in "landscape".

It's a 4 slice one so it's great that DP and I can have a side each with consistent settings so we're not constantly changing it between our preferences.

But yes, Jacksons doesn't quite fit. Close, but not quite. Normally turn it around mid-toast.

Missed the last one!
Landscape! Won't fit unless chop crust off.

We recently (after a looooottt of research) got the Dualit long slice and the bread fits! The actual quality of toasting isn't The Same as our wonderful late 12 yo Swan long slice but I couldn’t face the disappointment of trying other options that would potentially be worse... who would’ve thought making toast could be so stressful?! We ended up getting the Russell Hobbs one that after lots of research appeared to take large slices. Link below.

It takes the various Warburton slices (not tried toastie) and it works for most bread. However it is a bit of a rubbish toaster. I read that the Asda one mentioned above takes big slices and some of the dualit ones but I was scared of spending a lot on a dualit and then finding it didn't.

Still feeling the rage after buying a lovely toaster and almost no bread fitting in. How is this a thing!!

@Delilah21D00LoT we mean you need to get a 4 slice toaster with two extra long slots which technically hold 4 slices total, but you just do 2 slices landscape...

I have the Breville one and it doesn't actually fit Warburtons bread. It's also a shit toaster and doesn't toast evenly on each side. I wish I'd taken it back for a refund.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 17/01/2019 16:58

I have an old Argos Value toaster which mostly fits a toasting sized loaf, if you can find one. However, I don't know what is going on with bread but most of the stuff sold in supermarkets these days is revolting, and not like bread at all, so I either make my own or buy sourdough which most certainly doesn't fit.

By toasting loaf I mean the ones that are square. Unfortunately most bread is now very thick sliced, even the medium so another reason not to buy it. I don't understand why bread slices need to be more than 1/2" thick, or why bread is made with pea flour, soya flour and palm oil. That is not real bread but look at the ingredients on the bag and that is what we are expected to eat. It tastes nasty, especially M&S bread.

Breville do a warburtons toaster that fits 4 slices. We had one but it eventually only toasted one side.

Had a hell of a time replacing it but eventually got one from Sainsbury's copper shine 4 slice. Only problem is, it takes forever and it's toast settings are crazy. Needs to be right up to maximum to get anything near brown toast

@OopsInamechangedagain that might be worth a go, thank you!

Needs to go in sideways though. But it does fit.

I've also got a cheapie toaster from Asda. I think it was about £8. I went into the store, lifted a loaf of our normal bread and then stuck a slice into every display toaster in turn - this was the only toaster that fitted the bread! The (very helpful) staff member who saw me said he was going to suggest it to anyone he saw looking at toasters from then on!

BertieBotts · 17/01/2019 17:34

Oops, that theory doesn't work for all 4-slices, alas.

catkind · 17/01/2019 17:40

After much research, and like a PP taking a cardboard cutout slice of bread into Tesco's, we also got the Russell Hobbs colour plus one ruleofthree links to. It is so satisfying to finally have a toaster we can toast a whole slice of bread in again! The last one I had that worked was a long slot two slice toaster from boots own brand, back when boots did that sort of thing in the 90s.

Dragonglass · 17/01/2019 17:44

We have a Russell Hobbs 4 slice one. I can't find a link to it as we have had for years and they don't seem to sell it anymore. It fits the slices of bread even in portrait. It is similar to this one www.argos.co.uk/product/8526500
I have said to DH that when we need a new one, I am taking some bread into the shop to try out.

EskSmith · 17/01/2019 19:13

I have similar to this Kenwood, long slot 4 slices.

Kenwood True TTP210 4-Slice Toaster - White www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005O9QZTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KmnqCbP1ANSP2?tag=mumsnetforum-21

It toasts 2 slices of Jackson's bread perfectly.

JasperKarat · 17/01/2019 19:19

Swan four slice long toaster also manages pitta , bagels , small naans

TescoValue · 17/01/2019 19:24

The £25 cream one from Asda that has a little heart on it. It specifies that it's deep and thick and has 4 slots as well as crumb trays. Actually fits a whole pitta bread in!

TescoValue · 17/01/2019 19:25

Oh and all our thick Warburton's fits in there, we buy the toastie bread.

squiglet111 · 17/01/2019 19:26

I have a 4 slice toaster with no divider in the middle. I toast my toast sideways! I bought it specifically for that reason!

Honeyroar · 17/01/2019 20:05

I'm highly amused that Tescovalue is singing the praise of an Asda toaster.😀

TellerTuesday4EVA · 17/01/2019 21:05

This has been an ongoing saga in our house for several years now...

We're finally sorted with a 4 slice Breville toaster & hovis bread

If there's no hovis left & I have to get a warburtons loaf the whole household descends into anarchy

BarbaraofSevillle · 18/01/2019 05:56

OopsInamechangedagain

I think when our 'Warburtons' toaster breaks, or I finally get sick of it's crapness, that's the sort of toaster we will get. We have some sort of 2 slice long slot at work and it seems to work the best.

Teller I too would go for some sort of 'squarer' white sliced bread like Hovis, but DP is a Warburtons man, and as he eats far more bread and toast than I do, we get the bread he prefers (I'm fine with this BTW). I mostly use the toaster for potato waffles anyway.
