...to want a New friend who can regularly come to the cinema with me?

I love movies but nearly all my good friends are mums and are busy with younger kids during the day, are too tired to go at night/ saving energy for date night etc - I basically just want a cinema mate who loves talking about movies and seeing more quirky films etc chatting about the oscars etc

Am genuinely considering one of those sites for making friends.... have you heard of them? I read about them in an article once but cannot remember what they are called.

I am also busy SAHM but I am not as tied to my kids as those with babies and toddlers. Re naps etc.

It would also be nice to talk to someone and not discuss local schools and how our kids are doing. A bit of intellectual stimulation!

I guess I just want a friend outside of the bubble of my world but don’t know how to find her!

What area please? Sometimes I go to the cinema by myself 😃

GreatestShowUnicorn · 15/01/2019 21:12

What about setting up a cinema group on meet up

Grandadwasthatyou · 15/01/2019 21:15

I'm in the same boat. I love the cinema, DH detests it. He says he can't stand the chattering, mobile phone lights, rustling of sweet papers, people going to the toilet etc. He does have a point but I still love going, just nobody to go with!

Honesttodog · 15/01/2019 21:15

South east London??!

Pm me. I’m around similar area Smile

Honesttodog · 15/01/2019 21:17

I’m going to look at meet up and similar tonight. I don’t mind going on my own, I just love chatting about movies to and I love that bit just after when you walk home and talk about it. My DH only comes occasionally and considers a film a success if he doesn’t fall asleep in it Xmas Hmm

Are there any film clubs near you? My friend runs one & they show 2 different films a week, you could always get involved in running one & would meet friends as well.

ZsaZsaMc · 15/01/2019 21:19

Not sure whereabouts you are but pretty sure there’s a cinema club set up through East Dulwich forum for exactly this!

ghostyslovesheets · 15/01/2019 21:19

if you where in the West Midlands I'd bite your hand off - I often go alone but I hate not having someone to chat to afterwards

Torvi · 15/01/2019 21:20

Your DH sounds like my DP!

I'd have loved to be your cinema buddy but live too far away

Honesttodog · 15/01/2019 21:20

Oh thanks guys!Smile

Ragwort I did spot a club nearby but it was all obscure 70s films that I just wasn’t into...

ghostyslovesheets I’m East Midlands but willing to travel

1shotcappuccino · 15/01/2019 21:36

Same here. Sheffield, I always go to morning screenings. Marvel/DC sci fi fan 😊

AnnieMall · 15/01/2019 21:37

I volunteer with a 92yr old lady and we have a weekly film date. It's nice to go with an adult and watch non-animated films.

ForalltheSaints · 15/01/2019 21:41

Why not go by yourself? Some of the cinemas have individual sofa style seats (Curzon, Everyman for example).

Standandwait · 15/01/2019 21:42

SW London here, I'd join you!

Honesttodog · 15/01/2019 21:53

Annie mall that sounds lovely!

1shotcappuccino - could you be tempted by period dramas and disney 😂👋

AJPTaylor · 15/01/2019 22:02

Is there a local meet up site to you? V handy for making friends.

BackforGood · 15/01/2019 22:08

You've clearly hit upon a 'market' here - a 'film club' similar to a book club. You all watch the film then go for a coffee / glass of wine afterwards to discuss it Grin

Seriously though, I bet if you stuck a notice up in your local cinema, or on a local Facebook site, you could easily start a little group to do this!

Lululemonade · 15/01/2019 22:22

I am SE London too and so fed up of toddler time, happy to join you!!

1shotcappuccino · 16/01/2019 19:43

Guardians of the Galaxy, LOTS of Star Wars, Spiderman, Aquaman ........

Mermaidkisses · 17/01/2019 14:49

I would love a cinema buddy ... My boyfriend is lovely but simply doesn't enjoy the same films as me!

Mermaidkisses · 17/01/2019 14:50

Ooh forgot to say I'm in Ely near Cambridge and we just got our new cinema!
