I started today with really dark brown hair.
I went to salon and asked for caramel balayage.
This is how I've ended up..
It's awful isn't it?

I totally get it OP - it’s nothing like you asked for and it’s not ballyage. It doesn’t look great and it’s not well blended.

There isn’t a ‘leading salon for ballyage’. Just go to the best independent in your town and ask for help.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/01/2019 05:13

I don’t see any balayage. I see heavily highlighted hair in yellow / orangey hues.

Yes, I’d go back and ask for it to be darkened. You’ll never get the effect from this place by the look of it. Idk how hard that effect would be to do not being a hairdresser but I would have thought you needed two separate colouring sessions. One to get the hair to the caramel colour and another to get the lighter colours painted on.

Tiredeyes21 · 16/01/2019 05:48

Doesn’t look like balaygne to me, mine looked similar to the picture you posted Op that you wanted yours to look like just more ginger at the bottom.
Are your roots orange too or brown??
What did you say when they had finished? You need to go back and say this isn’t what I asked for..... be brave!!!

systemwwr · 16/01/2019 05:57

I went for the same thing and left with the definition of brassy, it looks terrible. After 3.5 hours in a salon feeling ill I was just desperate to leave. I feel for you, it's a lot of time and money wasted and I wish i'd complained.

Peachpebbles · 16/01/2019 06:09

Well it's nothing like the photo you showed them. What did you say to them when you realised? Did they suggest anything to correct it?

user1457017537 · 16/01/2019 06:15

You can only go from dark to light over several trips to the hairdresser. It’s just not possible to get a perfect colour in one visit.

Silvercatowner · 16/01/2019 06:31

It looks a heck of a lot nicer than the photo you showed them.

hairisruined · 16/01/2019 09:01

I said it's not really what I showed you in the pic and her response was
We can never guarantee it's going to look identical, everyone's hair reacts differently.
So I left thinking was I the one being unreasonable or expecting too much ?

I think you were after a melt, not a balayage. Look up blonde melt on YouTube and you'll see how hairdressers fix up bad bleach jobs to look like what you wanted.

Or let it grow out. Depending on how well they painted the top of the balayage, you might have a lovely melt in a few months. Wink

steff13 · 16/01/2019 09:24

I don't understand what they did? Was it all over color? I have dark brown hair, and this it my baylayage. If it's not what you want, have them fix it.

Rio18 · 16/01/2019 10:13

It doesn't look at all what I would expect from a balayage with dark brown hair...the picture above that Steff13 posted is how it should look.

Where's all the brown gone?

I definitely be going back to them.

Myheartbelongsto · 16/01/2019 10:19

I'd go back.

Kariana · 16/01/2019 10:24

You'd have been better off posting the pic of what you wanted it to look like in the first post OP. It's much more obvious now that it isn't anything like what you asked for. I'd go back and speak to a manager. That's not your hair reacting differently, that's them messing up. Where has all the brown gone!

Consolidatedyourloins · 16/01/2019 10:29

Steff's hair looks like what OP wanted (looks lovely Steff).

OP, that doesn't look like balayage. As Kariana says, they've not left any brown hair.

TheTroutofNoCraic · 16/01/2019 10:51

It looks a lot harsher than what you wanted...It's a good lift from dark brown but it's been lifted too much and needed to be toned with a warm golden brown gloss. I also think they've done far more highlights than they needed to do and taken the highlights too far up, and too dense/blocky. Easily fixed with a darker root stretch/melt into a golden light brown.

MarshaBradyo · 16/01/2019 10:53

I really like the original pic, not sure about the second but it’s not very close to the pic you took in

TheTroutofNoCraic · 16/01/2019 10:55

That's not your hair reacting differently, that's them messing up
Completely agree

FrenchJunebug · 16/01/2019 11:51

I like it.

Ohnonotuagain · 16/01/2019 19:18

It's a nice colour but looks like an almost solid colour or lots of highlights rather than baggage.

If you're unhappy you should call the hairdressers and explain.

birdiewoof · 16/01/2019 19:23

Definitely nothing like the picture you showed them, it’s far too light?!

Blueblueyellow · 16/01/2019 19:51

Where's your brown hair gone!! Op was it the manager you spoke too? I know how bloody awkward it is when a place messes up like this and if like me you hate complaining, but come on that's dreadful. They've gotten rid of your brown hair. Call again and ask for the salon manager.

hairisruined · 17/01/2019 17:46

Went back today and she's started the process of fixing it.
She said if I go back in 6 weeks she will add foils to get rid of the ginger section.
I think it looks a lot better ..do you?

Cheeringmeup · 17/01/2019 17:57

I didn't think it looked bad really, but the point was that it wasn't what you asked for.
Having said that - todays photo looks great - very nice!

Frazzled2207 · 17/01/2019 18:01

I think it was fine but initially probably not what you asked for. Second pic much better. Def not "ruined" anyway.

hairisruined · 17/01/2019 18:04

I've bought some olaplex..
Gonna condition it like mad to get some life back into it.
