People expecting me to travel thousands of miles to attend their destination wedding.

People putting their name on waiting lists for designer handbags that cost thousands of pounds.

Pamper parties for 9 year olds.

Any other grumpy old ladies like to list the modern day nonsense they can live without?

All the lazy so and sos who park on our Main Street infront of the Coop causing headaches for the rest of us trying to get out of our drive ways, not to mention the bus trying to get past WHEN THERES AN EMPTY CAR PARK YOU COULD PUT WEMBLEY ARENA IN BUT WILL MEAN HAVING TO WALK ANOTHER 6 yards!

Chubbyhen · 16/01/2019 18:35

Love this. It's me too !

HalloumiGus · 16/01/2019 18:35

Oh God, I need this thread. Fasten your seatbelts, she's off!

  • The Brexit shitshow
  • Selfie culture
  • Normal women being told to look like pornstars but this is all terribly empowering Hmm My beautiful nieces running about with the eyebrows of a James Bond villain and enough filler in their lips that they might as well be inflatable dolls
  • Commuting
  • Cost of living - bad now, going to get so much worse - see first point 'The Brexit Shitshow'
  • Winter / January / Short Days. I have reached peak SAD
  • Cancer - what a complete cunt it is
  • Clutter
  • Gender identity 'feelz'. Everyone under twenty identifying as some magical blue haired non-binary unicorn. FFS. No, you're just a student being a twat, like we all were, only my generation protested for worthwhile causes and got bolloxed on cheap cider rather than telling everyone they were Dave from Norfolk but they're now to be called Mx Delilah Bondageboots and be allowed to walk about in women's changing rooms waving their schlong about while everyone tells them how brave and stunning they are
  • Anyone looking to be told they are brave and stunning for anything other than saving someone superhero style
  • Virtue signalling / woke blokes and cool girls
  • Junk food addiction
  • Always feeling tired and grumpy with DH / DC
  • Hating my job every January but not being arsed looking for something else because the application forms are eleventy billion pages long and anyway I'll slide back into normal levels of apathy in February.
  • Fucking tax return
  • Humans apparently getting stupider than ever before in spite of having all of human knowledge at the click of a button
  • Did I mention Brexit?
  • Wondering how I've turned into this complete arsehole and I'm only in my forties!
TheWK · 16/01/2019 18:37

People who sit there idling in their parked cars pumping out carcinogenic noxious diesel fumes into my children’s faces outside their school

Teateaandmoretea · 16/01/2019 18:40

Blanket saying all children should stand makes you the ignorant unreasonable person.

Even if they aren't disabled very young children are vulnerable to injury standing on a crowded bus or train. Yabu on MN to not put your 4yo in a rear facing car seat but standing on a bus or tube with people who weigh 4x as much as them they can stand NO PROBLEM Hmm. IRL last time I went on the tube and it was busy someone immediately gave dd2 a tiny 6yo a seat..... Clearly Londoners are more cm considerate and reasonable than the average MNETTER. Average-sized 9yo dd1 was quite rightly not offered a seat (and would offer hers for someone who needed it more)

What annoys me tbh is the constant snidey competition and judgment of the modern day and the unpleasant nonsense people post online that they haven't got the guts to say in real life tof people face to face. That is nonsense for me.

JaneHare · 16/01/2019 18:44

If the elderly want Brexit, against the overriding wishes of the young, they can accept that the young won't like them very much, and why we should respect them just because they are old?

that's the daftest thing I have ever read on MumsNet.
Or anywhere really.

tolerable · 16/01/2019 18:50

how the hell did it make it into "the charts"music, which is...winging,sqwekin,or generally destroys your soul (it makes me flashback to my ma shouting--how the hell are you suppose to dance to THAT!) "belly tops"not being utilised to demonstate a selection of bellys...

Tryingtoslim · 16/01/2019 18:53

People who call their husband “ hubby” or “my other half” or even worse “ my better half”. Makes me feel violently sick and you sound needy

orangetriangle · 16/01/2019 18:53

people who allow their adult kids to not work and or work part time while they were full time to fund their adult kids socialising cars drinking travel etc just why what does it teach them grrr and let them live rent free into the bargain
People who treat their sixteen year old daughters as their friend and allow them to behave dress etc as though they are 25. She is not your mate she is your daughter grrr
People who are consistantly eating out and drinking and posting all about it on fb
In fact people who post every check in on fb we are not interested its boring!!!

Lydiaatthebarre · 16/01/2019 18:58

flowergirl where did I say disabled children should stand? Why are you reading things into posts that weren't said? Or do they have to be explicitly explained as not being what I mean.?

Anyhow I'm not getting into a debate about it,. because that is not what this thread is about so please stop derailing it.

Notreallyhappy · 16/01/2019 19:01

Yes to all of it..

dms1 · 16/01/2019 19:04
  • The obsession with Body Scuplting and the copious pics of abs, fitness regimens etc.
  • @almondfinger I agree re the leisurewear. *Those ‘sausage’ Pics of only the bottom half of legs on holiday with perfectly manicured toes. Northern Ireland politicians - get the fck back to work. Angry
  • Fat shaming... In fact ANY shaming of someone’s appearance, *Social Media & online gaming *The National Lottery. *The price of compulsory school uniforms *Bad manners *The overuse of the word ‘like’ *Mummy Wars.
winniestone37 · 16/01/2019 19:05

Mumsnet and people who post threads like this. Another poorly designed mumsnet humble brag as to how someone is so much better than someone else.

JaneEB · 16/01/2019 19:07

People that seem to think that cyclists should not use the road or the cycle path, people that try to grab my handlebars shouting no bikes when I am using a Toucan crossing (used by bikes and pedestrians), people that throw lighted cigarettes and empty (thank god) drink cans at me, that idiot that slowed down next to me to inform me I should be on the cycle path (two cars parked on it so could not) because I was delaying him, in the meantime he was causing quite a delay, oh and that guy in the Ferrari that deliberately pulled to the left to block a cycle path I was using, then scowled at me when I got off my bike, walked past him, then put my bike back on the road directly in front of him and cycled off, beating him through the lights just as they changed.

Can you tell I'm a disgruntled cyclist lol.

teainthemorning · 16/01/2019 19:08

Being stereotyped;
I'm old so I must be racist, pro-Brexit, hate all furriners, hate young people, hate children, be rich as Croesus, had it easy because I'm a baby boomer.

Mazzystarlett · 16/01/2019 19:09

Why does everything has to have it's own day or month now? It feels like every other day is something like "Hug A Rabid Carrot Day", "International Dog Turd Day" or some other crap Hmm. There's so many now they've lost their impact on me and I just find them irritating.

etcher70 · 16/01/2019 19:10

7 year olds with mobile phones (who exactly are they going to ring and why?!)
Selfies in general (why?!)
Massive cars that take up more than one parking space

Ellieboolou27 · 16/01/2019 19:16

mazzy spot on!!! That has made me roll up! Grin

Tismejan · 16/01/2019 19:17

women getting their nails 'done' every couple of weeks. Ridiculously long nails. How can you do housework with nails like that.

Jokirsti · 16/01/2019 19:20

All of the above. Also cyclists who cycle on the pavement at full pelt around a blind corner... never mind that there could be a child or runner or elderly person or pram coming the other direction!!! 😡

missbloomsbury · 16/01/2019 19:21

Well I’m 72 next week, so I raise your grumpy old women to a calm out on the other side! So no longer angry, just very very worried. This society seems to have no sense of reason and basic ideals. Until we all lose everything thanks to flood, famine, Brexit, (or the cyclic events of civilisations), then we will be unable to appreciate the contentment and happiness of a simpler life. No social media, no massive information overload, no crippling lack of self-worth. Yes, there would be poverty and hardships, but perhaps more unity, empathy, creativity and respect

JamieFrasersSassenach · 16/01/2019 19:23

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy - I think we are the same person!!!

Schmoobarb · 16/01/2019 19:23

Politicians and their endless talking of shite and not actually answering the questions they’ve been asked.

Queuing for shite. There was an American chain diner place opened up near us recently. To me it looks complete shite but people are apparently waiting 2/3 hours for tables and then another similar wait for food?! Who in their right mind queues like that to spend their hard earned cash? See also people queuing for the next sale and to buy iPhones the first day of release.

MsMustDoBetter · 16/01/2019 19:24

What Dangerousplan said.

Nearly47 · 16/01/2019 19:25

-Celebs in the news. All the time. I don't care what you are doing. Stop appearing on my news feed

  • Incompetent SUV drivers blocking the road because they think they act is if driving a bus
-Endless work meetings that never solve anything. Just get to work already
