To be furious over what has just happened?

Out Walking our dogs and my 6 month old baby in carrier. I have four dogs and look after one of my friend's dogs while she's at work occasionally. My four are quite large, the biggest being big German shepherd size and the smallest is a pug (friend's dog).

Before I get flamed for having too many dogs, two were mine, two my DH's before we met, so obviously we now have four. We aren't the kind of people to get rid of dogs just because we had a child - dogs are family too and we treat them as such.

We live in the countryside, very quiet rural area.
Coming to the end of our walk over the fields (where I never usually see any other walkers) I see another dog approaching - muzzled Siberian husky with a bloke.
At this point I already have four on leads ready for the road back to our house and bent down squat position to put pug on a lead.

I thought man would stop when he saw me bent down but he carried on approaching. I was struggling to get wriggly pug back on lead so I called out to him "can you just wait there a sec so I can get this one on the lead?" - No response and continues towards us.

Still trying to get dog on lead and my dogs are now getting a bit twitchy and unsettled that this bloke is approaching them, so one of mine barks.
Just to add here, our dogs are all very well behaved but they are protective over me and DD and will act accordingly if they feel threatened.

Man takes no notice, I call out again and say "can you just give me a second?" Ignores me completely.

He decides to squeeze by my dogs and I with a stupid smirk on his face. He can clearly see I'm struggling and baby is now crying and the others are pissed off. One of mine pulled forward and I dug my heels in and sat back so as not to land on my daughter.

I shouted at him and called him a fucking arsehole.

If he could have waited one second, I'd have been out the way and that wouldn't have had to have happened.

FFS Angry I just despise people at times.

Well, wouldn't that apply to all the dogs @birdonawire1 not just the pug? If the other dog is muzzled why can't they all just mill around?

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 15/01/2019 11:50

Headsdown, maybe they can't afford a dog walker?

Honestly if the Op couldn't afford to hire a dog walker she could just as easily get a friend to accompany her on the walk. Having just 1 adult with 5 dogs and a small child is only going to get ore dangerous as the child gets older. The way the OP is operating currently is not a sustainable option.

mydogisthebest · 15/01/2019 11:50

Wordthe, the OP has explained why she has 4 dogs. Why not try reading through the whole thread before posting?

Also where is the rule about how many dogs someone can have? So it's ok to have 6 or more children but not ok to have 4 dogs?

Hullygully · 15/01/2019 11:51

He was clearly an alien shapeshifter recently landed with his alien shapeshifter decoy dog unaware of dog etiquette on this planet. Or a zombie.

He definitely wasn't just an arse

DippyDiplodocus · 15/01/2019 11:51

With poo bags @Weetabixandshreddies

They all go out in the garden first thing when we get up. Poos are usually deposited here but there are occasional extra poos on the walk. These are collected in a poo bag and disposed of accordingly.

mydogisthebest · 15/01/2019 11:51

Maybe all her friends work? It's not that easy finding someone to walk with you.

RangeRider · 15/01/2019 11:52

Wow, the comments on here defending this man are astounding. He was clearly enjoying watching you struggle, he’s a dick and so are all these people defending him
You've decided he was enjoying watching OP struggle based on what? OP deciding he was smirking, when he could easily have been attempting a 'you've got your hands full there, I'm trying to be friendly' smile. And despite the fact that the only person being actively rude was OP, swearing at him (really not a good idea, as well as being offensive and unnecessary).
Ideally he would have stopped. But he didn't. Possibly because he's thoughtless or rude, possibly because he's deaf or didn't understand or didn't hear, possibly because he assumed she'd be done by the time he got there. Either way his dog was under control & didn't cause an issue, and he wasn't rude.
Next time be furious with yourself for having too much on your plate and not thinking ahead sufficiently. Not with someone who's minding their own business.

IknowTheBoswellJoke · 15/01/2019 11:53

With 5 dogs and a baby, you must have looked like a pretty chaotic person, frankly.
I avoid any and all contact with chaotic types: they seem to have a way of sucking you into their drama. If I came across a woman tumbling about on the ground with a hoard of dogs AND a baby, you'd be getting a side eye and a very wide berth.

MarshaBradyo · 15/01/2019 11:53

The op’s friend can pay a dog walker

MargoLovebutter · 15/01/2019 11:53

Thing is he didn't hear, didn't understand, didn't know what you were saying or signalling - or simply didn't care. It doesn't really matter what he was doing, because he was a man out walking his safely muzzled and well-behaved dog and he did exactly that.

You were the one with the dog that you couldn't handle that pulled you forwards so strongly that you had to dig in your heels and were forced to sit down, so you didn't fall forwards on to your baby.

So you have to work out a better way of dealing with other walkers and other dogs when you are out walking your animals, so that doesn't happen again.

Be furious all you like, it won't change the facts of the matter, which was that you weren't in control of your animals. Maybe socialise your own dogs more with other dogs, so that they are less 'protective'?

I live in a built up area surrounded by parks, so there is no way ever that dog owners could abide by your expectations when they walk their dogs - no one would be able to walk anywhere, as they'd all be standing to one side trying to give every other dog owner space!!!!!!!!!!

Weetabixandshreddies · 15/01/2019 11:54

@DippyDiplodocus
But how can you see what each dog is doing when they are away from you? That's 5 to watch. And even if you see them do it by the time you get roughly where they were you can't be sure

DippyDiplodocus · 15/01/2019 11:54

It wasn't a wide berth.

He must have been drawn in by my wailing and chaotic rolling around on the floor Hmm

Ffs there wasn't anything like that. Just a quick "do you mind just giving me a sec?"

OP posts:
DippyDiplodocus · 15/01/2019 11:57

@Weetabixandshreddies with the best will in the world, one poo may get missed occasionally. However, it is farm land, not a public highway. I don't just let the dogs shit all over and leave it, I do my best. Am I going to get crucified for that too now

OP posts:
Knowivedonewrong · 15/01/2019 11:58

Dippy you should have put this in the doghouse section. You won't get much sympathy from AIBU.

As an owner of two dogs, one very grumpy GR, I think you were right. He was a dick.
Common courtesy among dog owners is rare I find these days.

IknowTheBoswellJoke · 15/01/2019 11:58

Oh god, you really are a mess. Literally leaving a trail of shit in your wake. Jeez.

cafesociety · 15/01/2019 11:59

You called him what?

DippyDiplodocus · 15/01/2019 11:59

You clearly haven't read what I posted.

OP posts:
DippyDiplodocus · 15/01/2019 12:00

One poo is hardly a trail. And I'm the dramatic one 😂😂

OP posts:
Wordthe · 15/01/2019 12:00

A dog owner is a person with one dog

a person with a pack of dogs is person is trying to force their doggy chaos on everyone else

SaturdayNext · 15/01/2019 12:01

Perhaps he was trying to be polite on the basis that he could get past you without you having to get your dogs out of the way.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 15/01/2019 12:01

you should have put this in the doghouse section. You won't get much sympathy from AIBU.

Why? I very much doubt those on the doghouse section would respond differently. The situation would still be the OP trying to control 5 dogs and a baby and one man with a muzzled Husky on a lead trying not t get caught up in a potentially problematic situation.

I would imagine most posters on the doghouse section would have reacted in the same way as the man with the Husky and passed by the large group of dogs as quickly as possible.

DippyDiplodocus · 15/01/2019 12:01

Clearly @Wordthe Hmm
That's why I live in the countryside.

If I wanted to unleash some sort of dog chaos I'd take them to a town centre and let them ruin riot. HTH.

OP posts:
SaturdayNext · 15/01/2019 12:02

She shouldn't be out with that many dogs and a baby???!!! How the fuck is she supposed to walk the dogs and look after her baby if she doesn't? Big dogs need long walks, if she did it in batches she would be spending the whole day walking!

If you choose to walk 5 dogs, maybe you just have to decide to suck that up?

Yulebealrite · 15/01/2019 12:03

As a pp said.
You've had this particular situation. It ended up ok. The next situation might not end as well. Are you just going to carry on as normal?

What would have happened if all other factors remained the same but the dog wasn't muzzled and was loose?

DippyDiplodocus · 15/01/2019 12:03

So people have a free pass to be rude to someone because they have more than one dog. Alright then.
