@Stompythedinosaur any books you can recommend? I have a connection to Hexham and would like a good read. Fairly academic is fine but preferably not too dry!

UK postcodes - it's helpful to know a lot of this for my work.

It’s not that I’m in pain (well, any more than most people). I do know a lot about it though and could probably ace mastermind at it.

I don’t know anything about books, authors, songs or TV series and I can barely remember my own postcode Blush

The children of Queen Victoria
Flambards novels

DSHathaway your list is interesting. I adored Flambards books as a child.
Are Anthony Powell’s novels still widely read? I tried to read them in my 20s and couldn’t get into them but maybe several decades later I should give them another go.

Variety of Apples in Great Britain.

I was obsessed with apples for years for some reason and have quite extensive knowledge.

Howvery I have a huge framed poster of apple varieties over my cooker. Everyone asks me if I have an interest in apples. Nope, I just loved the poster!

Maybe I should start studying it.

@Dapplegrey- I think they're reasonably popular; ADTTMOT is available in most bookshops, I think, I certainly see it around. There's also a companion book called "Invitation to the Dance" by Hilary Spurling which is good for keeping track of the plot. I bought that after I'd read the novels though! I read them at 24-25 and loved them. I'm 28 now and would happily re-read in a couple of years so definitely try again!

Oh and Flambards forever!!!! What did you think of book 4 though? I love it, but I read 3 & 4 together and I never thought she should marry Dick, I always held out for Mark. And I cried at the end of book 2 when Sandy died! I'm a bit torn on reading the reboot by someone else, I know it has KMPs blessings but it isn't necessarily how she'd have continued the story for the original characters iyswim? I always wanted to read about Tom and Isobel in ww2, they'd have been about the right ages to be involved. Isobel in the WAAF or a WREN and Tom probably going one better on Mark and Will by joining the parachute regiment or something equally terrifying!

Dapplegrey · 21/01/2019 00:59

DS - it’s a long time since I read them but as you say I bet the later ones not by K Peyton aren’t the same. I must reread them all.
