To consider getting myself a single bed?

My room isn't tiny, it's a small double sized bedroom but seeing as I don't have a partner at present with no aspirations to change that in the foreseeable future, should I bin off the creaky old double and get a nice single? Would make my personal space so much nicer if I had the room to move about in there. (I have 3 sons and sometimes my very own space is so appealing!)

Trundle bed! :)

To consider getting myself a single bed?
AGHHHH · 14/01/2019 22:08

I have one. I only ever sleep on one side of a bigger bed anyway.

SgtFredColon · 14/01/2019 22:11

Was also going to suggest the small double. I went from a single to a small double when I lived alone and it was perfect.

I still have a king size - I like a change of scenery sometimes by going to the other side or star fish, plus my 5yo is in with me at some point most nights & mornings!
Can def see the appeal though and do occasionally sleep in the single spare bed.

I had a trundle bed when I was young I'm 34 now so this is a good few years ago. Ma mates thought it was amazing they had nothing like that back then. It's a proper single bed with a proper mattress underneath a proper bed. The stuff of dreams for a sleepover. Anyway get one.

Can't think of anything worse tbh.
I have a king size all to myself... except when DD is in it

Totopoly · 14/01/2019 22:14

Whatever suits you! I now have a king sized bed all to myself, and it's great. But when I was married, I used to sleep in one of the spare rooms on a v comfortable single bed, and loved it. Whatever works for you.

Hang on! “Iron sheets”? I’ve never heard of that.

AlpacaLypse · 14/01/2019 22:17

Noooo whoever upthread suggests single bed and double duvet! If it's a feathery duvet the filling just sags off either side leaving you with a cold thin layer and a heavy pile of full duvet hanging down.

My own choice has been double bed rather than King, and single duvet, which means I can be a starfish, snore, fart, have hot flushes, bugger off to the loo in the night, decide to read in bed, or anything else antisocial you can think of, without feeling in any way guilty about disturbing The Father Of Our Children. Who does very similar in the other large ensuite bedroom, to the best of my knowledge.

Yes but be aware that once you have a single bed you will probably only find a new partner soon after

Because of Sod's law

nickeltownofbethlehem · 14/01/2019 22:19

Yanbu.
It'd be awesome.

Get one of those that converts into a double for duvet/dvd evenings with the DCs.

showmeshoyu · 14/01/2019 22:19

I have one. I only ever sleep on one side of a bigger bed anyway.

but I love knowing there's another four feet of bed unexplored in the night, despite not moving.

SemiAquaticEggLayingMammal · 14/01/2019 22:30

Whoops, sorry that I appeared to disappear off the thread- I fell asleep with ds2 in his lovely comfy single Grin

It was as I was lying there waiting for him to drop off that I thought about it.

I like the idea of a trundle- or was it truckle? And also I agree with a pp who said they only ever sleep on one side of the bed anyway- I've been divorced for ages and still don't go over to "his" side!

Think I am going to put it on my list of Things To Do. The children often come into my room in the middle of the night but only rarely join me- they usually insist on me going back to their (single) beds anyway so I'd be no worse off. I will have so much room!

Bumblebee would that mean I need to think about shaving my legs again?

I have a double for DP and me although it constantly feels like I’m sleeping in a toddler bed the amo7nt of space he takes up 😊

SemiAquaticEggLayingMammal · 16/01/2019 21:08

I am Kondo-ing my room this weekend. The double might have to go!
