I had daal 4 times last week. My DH bought 4 packs of the Koohinor Dal Makani as it was on offer.

I wasn't feeling too good & so couldn't be bothered to cook, so microwaved a pack each evening. (

At the moment I’m slightly obsessed with baked sweet potato with loads of cottage cheese, but if I could only have one thing it would be a toss up between marks and Spencer’s salt and vinegar crisps, and pepperoni pizza.

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 21:05

cold daal is particularly nice the next day!

if a dry mess, add more water next time, and leave lid on when cooking.

I’d happily eat dahl every night. I make it whenever Mr Meat and Two Veg goes away.

ErrorNoBrainDetected · 14/01/2019 21:07

KlutzyDraconequus

It's lentil curry.

SwagQueen · 14/01/2019 21:08

Daal too. It's my favourite. I'm 12 weeks pp with a very fussy DS who doesn't sleep. My Indian friend brings me Daal every 2 weeks or so for my freezer. It's delicious and the turmeric is very good for you! Might go and heat some up now....

JudasPrudy · 14/01/2019 21:08

I'd eat Chinese crispy chilli beef for every meal.

2K19 · 14/01/2019 21:09

I adore dhal and would happily eat this every day. YRNBU

LoveBeingAMum555 · 14/01/2019 21:11

Ah sorry but I prefer chickpeas myself, unless it's lentil and carrot soup. Some kind of chickpea, onion, potato and spices combo would do me, maybe with some peppers and spinach thrown in. Just not a huge fan of the texture of lentils, maybe I am missing something.

Tinkobell · 14/01/2019 21:12

If I ate daal everyday (or the chickpea one - Chana masala?) I'd be farting like a proverbial wizard and living alone.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 14/01/2019 21:12

I could happily live on that.

DrWhy · 14/01/2019 21:13

I love dahl but am no good at cooking it myself. I’ll try the OPs recipe but any other recipes are also welcome.

ErrorNoBrainDetected · 14/01/2019 21:13

Daal and boiled rice, with finely chopped salad and beetroot along with carrot achar (Asian pickle) absolutely delish 😘

BentNeckLady · 14/01/2019 21:14

I prefer green lentil daal to the red ones so maybe try those instead of you don’t like the texture of red ones. They do take longer to cook but taste better imo.

ManicUnicorn · 14/01/2019 21:14

I always thought that I could easily eat Pizza everyday day, but then I went on holiday to an all inclusive hotel where they served pizza every night for dinner, and it turned my stomach by the end of the week...

Moominfan · 14/01/2019 21:16

I could happily eat steak every day

PerkingFaintly · 14/01/2019 21:16

This is the thread I needed. I love daal but hardly ever get round to cooking it.

This Will Change.

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 21:17

go for it Perking!

Gingerkittykat · 14/01/2019 21:18

I love dahl, and go through phases of eating it loads but then I get bored and don't touch it again for ages.

I experimented loads with recipes and the best one I found was on the Jamie Oliver site. I fins boiling the lentils separately with turmeric and adding fried onions and other spices makes a big difference compared to chucking it together.

I also add a knob of butter to make it creamier, not vegan and not quite so healthy.

PerkingFaintly · 14/01/2019 21:18

There's an unopened pack of red lentils eyeing me from the cupboard...

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 14/01/2019 21:18

Oh my goodness if I could have a bowl of Dahl (no rice) with a roti or chapati every night I'd be a very happy lady!

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 21:19

this looks similar, with added ingredients, but no onion

Sweet chilli Hot smoked salmon fillets from Tesco with courghetti.
So good!

ILoveAllRainbows · 14/01/2019 21:20

I add mushrooms to my daal.
I also use tinned tomatoes instead of stock in a variation of this recipe:

lovingitvegan.com/vegan-lentil-soup/

I eat it with spinach, broccoli and carrots and so don't need rice etc.

NicoAndTheNiners · 14/01/2019 21:20

I'm going to do some daal cooking after reading this as I do like it.

Cheesy lentil wedges sound good, is there a recipe?
