Thanks OP. Is that 100g or 100 oz of lentils?

chemenger · 14/01/2019 20:49

Cheesy lentil wedges sound amazing, off to google.

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 20:49

oh, will just check, oh 4 oz, 100 g Blush that was just for me, being greedy, about 8 oz as a side accompaniment dish for family

Could eat chana daal every day, well with yogurt and raw onions so not vegan.

lotusbell · 14/01/2019 20:51

Curry. Daal is delicious, good choice. Also off to look up Lentil Wedges

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 20:52

agree, cheesy lentil wedges look like a good plan for tomorrow!

Thank you so much, HoraceCope. I'll definitely try it. Your recipe sounds much nicer than others I've tried.

BaronessBomburst · 14/01/2019 20:54

Chick peas!

lljkk · 14/01/2019 20:54

Kind of fattening, isn't it? If made with ghee, I mean. But I guess that's not vegan. Can it be called dahl without the ghee? Philistines. Ruining perfectly good dahl.

minipie · 14/01/2019 20:55

I love dhal too

But if it was going to be the same thing every night forever, it would have to be something involving melted or fried cheese. mmmmmm... halloumi and deep fried brie and garlic bread with mozzarella...

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 20:55

There's always one Wink @lljkk

Chuck in some spinach or coconut milk + lime, or chick peas at the end. Food of the gods when served with rice!

CarrieBlu · 14/01/2019 20:57

Cheesy lentil wedges really are delicious, I don’t think you’ll regret it! If you have left over mixture, I sometimes add a bit of stock just to make it a bit looser in texture and then mix it in as a jacket potato filling, top with extra cheese and bake. Cheesy lentil jacket potatoes are the best on a cold day.

QuaterMiss · 14/01/2019 20:57

Ah. Thought it was just me with the dahl ... Could happily eat most days. Downside is I'm losing all my other cooking skills.

CarrieBlu · 14/01/2019 20:58

I also love the red dragon pie that my mum makes, I could eat that every day too. I think the recipe is mainly aduki beans. Really yummy.

BentNeckLady · 14/01/2019 20:59

Daal with a bit of mango chutney stirred through with a couple of roti is the food of the gods!

If I could eat one meal for every meal it’d be lamb keema and roti. Or Nando’s 😂

WatchingTheWheels85 · 14/01/2019 20:59

Houmous with sesame seed breadsticks I happily would eat nothing else.

MiceSqueakCatsMeow · 14/01/2019 21:00

I've never eaten it, but I imagine cheesy mashed potatoes in a butter lump, white bread sandwich.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 14/01/2019 21:01

I'd eat hot buttered toast every night if I could.

I love dhal, but I add spinach to mine. Makes it even more lovely.

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2019 21:01

I make that dahl recipe- but, after reading a Nigella recipe, I sometimes add a splodge or tamarind and a couple of dates. Then some pomegranate seeds and some fresh herbs on the top. Very delicious. And you don’t need loads of ghee- a tiny splash of oil to soften the garlic, onions and ginger and wake up the cumin is all you need.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 14/01/2019 21:01

We add chopped mushrooms or spinach, eggs, tomatoes, sometimes peas and bit of curry powder.

I've had it with spinach, mushrooms and grated cooked carrot mixed in too with cauliflower and cheese chunks and that was very moreish.

SlowNorris · 14/01/2019 21:02

How are you serving it? Do you plonk it on the rice?

When I try this it turns into a dry mound.

AuLoinSontVontLesNuages · 14/01/2019 21:04

@HoraceCope

I knew my boyfriend was the one the first time he stayed over at a weekend and I got up and made daal (with a lot of fresh chilli and coriander garnish) for breakfast on autopilot and he woke up and just helped himself from the pan before joining me at the table and didn't comment. We're both white Europeans who've never lived in India. And it was the first time we'd had a non-restaurant meal together.

Daal for breakfast - Daal for lunch - Daal for supper

I could eat Daal whenever really.

YANBU!
