Toilet brush or no toilet brush?!

OP posts:

Use two sticks of dynamite wired to a detonator like chopsticks to carefully lower a larger stick of dynamite into the pan. Gently mist the seat and cistern with two inches of black powder. Put a fresh lemon or something nearby if you like it to smell all poncy and shut.

Retire to a safe distance and delicately detonate.

I hate cleaning toilets.

StoneofDestiny · 13/01/2019 23:16

I've so much sympathy with this. Cleaning mess like this works if, and only if, everybody cleans up after themselves at the point it is needed

Correct - get it sorted. No need for toilet brushes if it's sorted at source!

Holidayshopping · 13/01/2019 23:16

Thick bleach or thin bleach? How do you stop it splashing your clothes?!

tapdancingmum · 13/01/2019 23:20

I spray Flash bathroom cleaner over the seat, back but and inside the toilet. Leave it to go and clean the sink in the bathroom. Come back and use toilet brush to clean the bowl then use toilet roll to clean the seat and back bit, flush and it's clean. If it needs more of a scrub l either use the industrial strength bowl cleaner we have or get my DH to don his drain cleaning gloves to empty the bowl and scrub it. I don't understand these people who have a fear of the toilet. As long as you dispose of or wash all cloths out after cleaning it and wash your hands it's no more dangerous than taking a shit in the first place.

lynnepot · 13/01/2019 23:20

Grin adult what song is that you ripped that off for the potty song? It's bugging me.

Holidayshopping · 13/01/2019 23:23

It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to?

Sillybilly1234 · 13/01/2019 23:29

I get the cleaning lady to do ours.

delboysskinandblister · 13/01/2019 23:31

Adultchildalcoholicparents - you may have converted me to the loo blade!! And i hate brushes. But I am lovin your work..

OP Harpic 100% limescale remover and loo paper. We live in a very hard water area 'daaan saaf'

Been told not to use bleach in the loo because it damages the ceramic. Occasionally I go rogue and furtively clean with bleach to get below the water line.

We have a loo brush but I can't stand them or the thought of it sitting near the loo in perpetuity. Vile.

Harpic and paper flush away! Much nicer.

adultchildalcoholicparents · 13/01/2019 23:32

It's My Party (and I'll cry if I want to) lynnepot Grin

delboysskinandblister · 13/01/2019 23:37

OP p.s. - but to clean the seat and cistern etc - I use flash and toilet paper and flush away. I refuse to use a sponge / cloth that has been on the toilet surface. Disposable all the way! Grin.

If any of use have the flu etc i spray all the surfaces with anti-bac spray aswell

I don't know what type of Mumsnetter this makes me? Hmm

carinamel · 13/01/2019 23:38

Now that is just mean to a compose a song celebrating the vaporzsing of all the germs. Want someone please think of the germs children? Shock

loubluee · 13/01/2019 23:38

I must be odd because I use a toilet brush, but fill the toilet brush holder half full of bleach/water and change it every other day. So use it then pop it back in the bleach for another day, then swop the bleach water and so on 🤷🏻‍♀️ No one has died in my house!

Merename · 13/01/2019 23:44

In our house the brush is just a skidder scraper, not used for cleaning, cleaning is marigold on and cloth by hand. Haha after a few years on MN I’ve seen so many references to the toilet brush debate but never an actual thread!!

ScreamingValenta · 13/01/2019 23:45

Rubber gloves, bleach, old rag, elbow grease.

Do you read Mark Caponigro? Grin

this dude telling the audubon society they shouldn’t be promoting birds might be my favorite internet comment of all time

(Caponigro complains to a leading Bird Society about the glorification of predator birds and will no one think of the insects and plants that they eat?)

lynnepot · 13/01/2019 23:52

Nope never heard of the song it's my party. Who sings it?

adultchildalcoholicparents · 14/01/2019 00:01

[[never heard of the song it's my party. Who sings it?]

Probably lots of other versions but Lesley Gore's is well known among people who know the song. Grin

Grumpasaurus · 14/01/2019 00:08

Hire a cleaner!

whatsthepointthen · 14/01/2019 00:18

My child gets skids all up the bowl every single time, just uses bleach doesnt remove them, ive tried!

JuniperBeer · 14/01/2019 00:21

Whichever way you want. Is mumsnet really going to decide whether you have a loo brush in your house?
Just decide whether you want to glove up and wash with a minging cloth (cos you know, wipes are bad)
Or whether you just want to crack on and use a loo brush like the rest of the population of the UK

lynnepot · 14/01/2019 07:37

Yes I know that song actually now you have reminded me. Its a nice song.

Has op not responded to the feedback on her thread yet?

greenelephantscarf · 14/01/2019 07:42

toilet cleaner and brush for inside the bowl.
warm soapy water to wash the seat and outside with a cloth.

fiona5 · 14/01/2019 07:51

Parazone do something called 'better than bleach'. I don't use a toilet brush. Once a week I put my gloves on a clean it by hand but it just had parazone down it in between cleans.

Rebah · 14/01/2019 07:59

Bum hose to squirt away skids.

Bit of bleach/loo cleaner twice a week.

I hate loo brushes because people seem to use them to brush away skids then put them back in holder with poo and loo roll all over them.

Bum hose is also great for getting up under the rim (of the toilet bowl obvs) to get rid of limescale.

PseudoBadger · 14/01/2019 08:32

“If any of use have the flu etc i spray all the surfaces with anti-bac spray aswell”

What will anti bacterial spray do against the flu virus?
