Got endometriosis had op and on treatment that’s not really working. past month or so I’ve been in really bad pain past week it’s been so bad that every 20 mins or so it cripples me I have to stand or sit completely un able to move. The pain shoots across my womb and both ovaries. I had an internal scan last weekend came back normal. It’s crippling me and I can’t do anything I’m dreading work tomorrow but I can’t call in sick as to many sick days I don’t no what to do the pain is so bad

If the pain is that unbearably 10/10 bad pain, then yes go to A&E

Pachyderm1 · 13/01/2019 12:32

I don’t know if a & e will be able to help - you need a long term solution. I would try 111 and see if they can get you an out of hours appointment.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

chickhonhoneybabe · 13/01/2019 12:35

It’s an ongoing issue and usually a GP matter. I’d ring 111 in the first instance they’ll refer you to a&e if needed.

CrazyDuchess · 13/01/2019 12:35

Call 111 and speak to a Dr

MrsDrSpencerReid · 13/01/2019 12:39

I was tossing up whether to go to a&e last week with severe pain, had been brushed off by my GP 3 times in 3 weeks.

I finally went in and was borderline for sepsis when I got there, ended up being admitted for 7 days.

I bawled my eyes out when I read my discharge papers, seeing how sick I really was on admission Sad

Trust your instincts, if you feel you need to go, go x

Foodylicious · 13/01/2019 12:40

Unless it's suddenly worse than Friday or yesterday, I can't see why a&e would be your first call.

Call 111 and see if they can get you an appt or let you know where your nearest walk in is.
Or send you to a &e if they think you need to go.

Paddington23 · 13/01/2019 12:47

Yes pain is 10/10 but for about a minute every 20 mins every time it’s gone I think i brush it off and then it’s back and I’m bawling my eyes out paralysed

Given you may have an infection I would go in.

Houseworkavoider · 13/01/2019 13:26

@Seniorcitizen1
Are you a dr?
If so, are you with the op right now??
I’m guessing not.
How the actual hell can you be 100% sure the op is not experiencing a medical emergency.

Cornettoninja · 13/01/2019 13:28

I agree 111 or walk-in and see what they advise. You may be able to get a prescription for stronger painkillers if there are no other symptoms that concern them to last you till you can see the GP tomorrow.

If that doesn’t help at least you’ve got a recent record showing what you’ve tried.

Hope you feel more comfortable soon Flowers

Taken codine curled up in a ball on the bed last time I went to a and e they could only offer me codine at a lower dose than I had at home

Agree with other posters, call 111 and they will direct you to whoever they think is most appropriate

Seniorcitizen1 · 13/01/2019 13:58

houseworker just going on what she has posted majes me think she is nit an A&E patient. However if the answer to Q2 is yes then of course she should go to A&E. I have PhD so yes I am a Dr but not a physician. My son is, working in A&E, and given the number of patients he sees who are not A&E patients and he tells them so and sends them on their way, and the number of follow up letters he sends to GPs after a referral where he tells the GP that this was an inappropruate A&E referral I well understand why A&E dept miss their targets.

lljkk · 13/01/2019 14:02

Let us know what happens, OP, if you seek help what do they do for you. x

partinor · 13/01/2019 14:03

Yes 111. I suspect if you went to A and E they would just check this was the cause, then send you away and tell you to see your GP.
Also sadly lots of people live with severe pain. If there is nothing they can do, you need a referral to a pain clinic as they are the specialists.

Kethy · 13/01/2019 14:06

@Seniorcitizen1
If your son spent his time dealing with patients rather than writing whingeing letters to their GPs, perhaps A&E would meet their targets

Talkingfrog · 13/01/2019 14:06

I would say 111 for advice first instead of a&e. I can only imagine how painful it must be though. It is a condition that a lot of people do not fully understand and therefore do not realise what pain you are in. I hope you can get something sorted (both now and long term).

Bombardier25966 · 13/01/2019 14:07

Are you under gynae, what treatment are you having?

If I remember correctly this is a long term problem. Unless there has been a sudden deterioration in your condition A&E is not the most appropriate treatment for you.

Kethy · 13/01/2019 14:07

If the pain is that bad, then perhaps A&E is the best bet. Something must be wrong to cause the pain

beansonbread · 13/01/2019 14:12

I have endometriosis so I know how bad the pain can be. I've ended up in the back of an ambulance twice because my pain was so extreme. I've had two operations to remove ovarian cysts which have sorted the pain for a matter of weeks/months but certainly haven't been a long term solution.

As for your pain right now - I would go 111 to explain the pain comes and goes but when it's there, it's a 10. If the pain starts to last longer or doesn't fade, definitely A&E. Sometimes my pain can only be settled with a morphine drip as it's so extreme and obviously I don't have one at home, therefore A&E is the only option.

Going forward, I was prescribed morphine tablets for the days when the pain is out of this world. They basically take the edge off the pain while I wait for an ambulance to get me to hospital for a higher dose. Could this be an option for you to have in the cupboard ready for extremely high pain days?

OneStepSideways · 13/01/2019 14:15

I'd go to A&E, endo can cause an ovary to twist or adhesions to form that pull the pelvic organs out of place. You may need surgery. They can't always see the extent of it on ultrasound even TV. If the pain doesn't settle or you deteriorate clinically they can do a laparoscopy.

Seniorcitizen1 · 13/01/2019 14:58

kethy your response highlights gross ignorance. when a patient has been seen in A&E their GP must be sent a letter detailing the reason for presenting, treatment offered and how the GP needs to follow up the treatment. This is a standard practice requirement. If the patient is referred by GP inappropriately (ie they should have been treated by the GP) the A&E Dr is duty bound to make the point - if they don’t have to see patients who should be treated by GP then the time real accident and emergency patients have to wait is reduced. My son and his colleagues concerns are that time is wasted seeing someone who presents at 3am with a sore ear (real case) while someone who is really ill has to wait longer. Immediately after sending this time waster on his way my son soent 20 minutes giving CPR and brought someone back - these are the type if patients who should be in A&E. They include this one sentence in the letter so that hopefully the GP will think again. Hopefully if yiu ever present to A&E with a genuine condition treatment us not delayed by someone whi should have treated elsewhere.

Foodylicious · 13/01/2019 15:21

Hope you are ok OP?
Have you called 111 or gone to a&e?

You do need to see someone today I should think

Paddington23 · 13/01/2019 16:09

I’m going to ring my doctor tomorrow I’ve survived since Friday with this pain don’t want to waste a and es time or 111
