Long one but as stupid as it sounds it’s all hit a head after the episode of casualty tonight.
I have a long term friend, at time we tend to have very different opinions on politics ( I am a remainer and she is a leave for example ) anyway most part we just avoid conversation on it however recently as the politics has been geared up a lot I am finding it harder and harder to see her as someone I can be friends with.
Last week she shared a post which was Katie Hopkins basically lieing whilst reading out a government document in what asylum seekers can get.
I just ignored this and kept my opinion to myself. But she was blabbering on how her family could do with 37 pound a week and don’t get it ( obviously not true as she has 4 kids who she gets child benefit and child tax credit for and just spent the summer holidays on Disney Florida)
Now tonight casualty was an episode about a poorly pregnant lady with sepsis who hasn’t felt baby move in 2 days but hasn’t gone to get treatment because of immigration status. She has received a letter stating she would have to pay for maternity services.
Now a&e saves both their lives from sepsis as baby developed it shortly after birth.
I am aware this is just a programme however she decided to publicly state her opinion on this as the doctors had stated emergency treatment is free.
So of course this lead to a rant about how if this is how the actual NHS is fun then it’s no wonder it’s falling apart blah blah they shouldn’t have received treatement.
My child is terminally ill and has been saved my the NHS numerous of times ( she is white British so I suppose in my friends head that of course is absolutely fine ) but I just can’t agree with anyone thinking it would be ok to purposely allow a baby to die because where they come from:( which is basically what she was getting at.
I do feel like the politics at the moment are showing that we are probably just not compatible as friends !
