Am I the only one here that doesn't know (AITOOHTDK-New topic?) what eateries mean by "dirty" in relation to fries and burgers and stuff? Why is it dirty? What is the dirt? It's a new thing that's just started and I'm feeling left behind. Sad

Any other new things at restaurants/cafes? (Not talking about stupid presentation. #wewantplates)

Presumably it's one level up from cheeky! Whatever the hell that means.

Pachyderm1 · 12/01/2019 18:54

It’s a slangy term for something very delicious but very unhealthy (usually fatty, fried and salty). It’s a reaction against the phrase ‘clean eating’ which is used to describe a very healthy diet.

^^ What Pachyderm said.

But I must admit I find it very off-putting? Who wants to eat something called dirty? That reminds you that you shouldn't be eating it ? Not me.

Even M&S sell dirty fries - with cheese sauce and bacon.

gimmeadoughnut123 · 12/01/2019 19:06

Dirty = very delicious and amazing but also very unhealthy. Normally very overloaded with toppings. E.g. dirty fries could consist of...

Chips, bbq pulled pork, jalapenos, loads of cheese, and some sort of sauce on top (sour cream).

Dirty nachos - tortilla chips layered with chilli, guac, jalapenos, cheese cheese and more cheese, salsa, sour cream, some more cheese. Basically the normal toppings x10.

There is nothing more disappointing than going to a restaurant and ordering dirty whatever, to find a normal amount of toppings on them.

Now I am hungry.

It's the antithesis of the clean eating trend.

Mysterian · 12/01/2019 19:07

Thank you. A crap word indeed but at least I know what it means before I go to a posh burger place. "7bone".

Wonder if the adjectives increase according to how bad for you/tasty it is?

Dirty Fries = cheese on top.
Filthy Fries = Cheese and bacon.
Disgustingly soiled Fries = Cheese, bacon and chilli.
Shit-covered diseased grime fries = Cheese, bacon, chilli and pineapple.

etc.
