To feel more sad for Landeover employees than Andy Murray

On the day that 000s of redundancies are announced at JLR I can't feel sad for a Millionaire sportsman who has had to retire due to his own body as opposed to someone else making the decision for him.

The new coverage of the two stories has really irritated me.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Whereas I agree they don't need to be mutually exclusive, and there is enough compassion to go round, I do agree with OP's point (and some of the replies) that a sportsman being forced to retire 2 or 3 years earlier than he otherwise might, does not justify taking up the first 12mins of the main news programme.
There really are bigger issues in the world.

He is so supportive of women, calling out sexism whenever he sees it. I love him for this more than for his amazing tennis.
I hope he goes on to coach and to get involved in women's tennis, and gets behind women in sport over the scandal of men competing as women.

Aye, it's hard being Scottish Grin It is indeed. Especially when you support the Scotland football team.

AM is a great guy and I feel very sorry for him - I have also been in the position of losing a job and its a horrible situation, I hope all those affected find new jobs soon

Op - that’s how easy it is to express sympathy and empathy without coming across as a horrible person.

I adore his penetrating gaze.

Just to add I wasn't comparing them directly. The news coverage pissed me off.

I was listening to the radio and people were going on and on about AM and a mere mention of 000's of redundancies

I didn't say I don't feel sorry for AM I actually quite like him (obviously don't know him) but I feel more sorry for the JLR employees who barely got a mention.

I'm clearly in the minority which might be why the press report what they do in the way that they do.

It is possible to feel compassion for all of them at the same time.
