To ask if anyone has done Invisalign or other adult braces?

Nervously contemplating a big spend on Invisalign or some other adult braces type thing to finally address my teeth. They're healthy but not very aesthetically pleasing. Not terrible though, either, so I'm wondering just how much discomfort/inconvenience there is with getting them done with the invisible aligners or even adult braces. Anyone done it? Was it worth it? How many months did it take from start to finish?

Mine cost over £4000 and took 18 months but the result in brilliant. I wear a retainer at night 5 nights a week. No problems at all. Really glad I did it.

Firstworddinosaur · 12/01/2019 18:23

OP I wouldn't have veneers unless you have to as they will need replacing eventually and do damage the natural teeth a little (I have two veneers). Always better to work with the natural tooth which is why I'm now considering braces too for my other wonky teeth.

Interesting about the 'blobs' they use to help move the teeth now with Invis. My dentist told me it means they can move teeth previously unmovable without fixed wires.

I've been quoted £2500 for 6-9 months upper teeth Invisalign.

Ultramic · 12/01/2019 18:24

I'm in fixed ceramic braces for 2 years, £4000. Currently 15 months in. I wish I'd done it sooner!

OnlyTheDepthVaries · 12/01/2019 18:28

I had invisalign about 10 years ago. Absolutely the best thing I have ever done. Teeth are still straight and my smile is great. Should have done it before. The added bonus is the weight loss as you can't eat between meals.

OnewaytoRio · 12/01/2019 19:46

I had my Invisalign fitted yesterday! Had been toying with the idea for years but glad I've taken the plunge. OP, phone a few clinics and see if they will be having a promotion night soon - they will scan you for free and show you what your teeth will (hopefully!) look like post treatment, and you might get some freebies like teeth whitening thrown in. I must say, although am very excited about the prospect of straight teeth, it's annoying right now (day 2) - it's rubbing my mouth and tongue sore. Hopefully will improve. The attachment blobs are also clear, you can barely see them.

Bitchywaitress · 13/01/2019 00:54

Onewaytorio. The rubbing will get better as your month hardens, I promise!! Get the wax and use it if you haven’t already.

Bitchywaitress · 13/01/2019 00:54

Your mouth hardens!

I had an inman aligned for my wonky tombstone lower front teeth - completely transformation in under 4 months. Had ABB - alignment, bleach, bonding - am thrilled with the results. Dentist said they didn't generally do veneers when non invasive cosmetic work could achieve similar results without damaging the natural teeth.

Inman isn't suitable for all cases that Invisalign can be used for, but it was a brilliant option for me. Amazed at how quickly it worked!

bananafish81 · 13/01/2019 01:27

Before / after. Took about 5 months including bleach and bonding

Stick with it. You'll get used to it. One of the best things I ever had done. People were trying to put me off saying there "nothing wrong" with my teeth. This photo shows otherwise.

I had my fixed braces put on yesterday. Ceramic top, metal bottom. I am a 49 year old woman in agony, right now I wish I could rip them out of my mouth. I only wanted my bottom teeth fixed but you still have to have them on upper and lower teeth. My god they ache, pain killers barely help (wine helps, but only white as red can stain the fuckers), it’s agony to eat and I can’t bite my molars together. I can’t talk properly because my mouth is dry and the brackets stick to the inside of my mouth and I feel very self conscious.
If I had gone for Invisalign I would have taken them out and not put them back in again! Is anyone else starting out on this self inflicted horrible journey?
On the up side I look like I’ve had lip fillers as the brackets push your lips out a bit.
Mine cost around £3.5k, probably the same price as a boob job.

QuilliamCakespeare · 17/01/2019 12:15

@gladysp2 HANG IN THERE! I was miserable for the first two weeks but I'm about 3 months in now and barely notice them. I remember losing weight in that first few days because I couldn't face eating.

Keep taking the painkillers, slap wax all over the bits that make your mouth sore and focus on this time next week.

hownowpowpow · 17/01/2019 12:52

Watching with interest. I have a consultation booked with an orthodontist on February 18th.My teeth aren't bad if I am honest but I'm unhappy with them. One of the top front is slightly crossing over the other.

Can I ask why you were recommended the type of braces you have?

How are the pain levels today?

Lellochip · 17/01/2019 14:18

hownowpowpow I wasn't particularly recommended my specific type (inman aligner), just stumbled upon a new "quick" option for braces online one day and looked into it. My front teeth overlapped too.

It didn't bother me enough to go for years of fixed braces, but the Inman marketing claims usual times of 6-16 weeks so was very interested. Because it was a fairly minor cosmetic fix I'd pretty much decided it was this type of brace or nothing, and luckily the dentist said I was suitable

SleepyPaws · 18/01/2019 14:59

@gladysp2 hang in there, the first week or so is horrific but it will get better I promise, it'll be worth it in the end.

FortyFacedFuckers · 18/01/2019 15:06

@lellochip I have been thinking about going for the same one you used, can you post or PM me some more information please?

dreaminofholidays · 18/01/2019 15:16

I wanted to have invisalign but I needed to move my teeth up and down as well as forwards and backwards and was told I could achieve that with invisalign.
Instead I had lingual braces, which are train tracks but on the inside of your teeth so they can't be seen by anyone. Was uncomfortable at first but you soon adjust.
Happy with the results, I have fixed retainers now but also the ones you are meant to wear at night. I didn't really like wearing them so just rely on the fixed retainers now.

Good luck. I'm very pleased I did it x

RoboticSealpup · 18/01/2019 15:24

I'd like to do it but I have unexplained dental pain in one of my bottom front teeth, so I'm a bit worried about messing about with that. Another poster said you have to have train tracks on both upper and lower. Does anyone know if that's also the case for other methods, such as Invisalign/Inman aligner?

@Terramirabilis I would love it if my teeth liked like yours! They're perfectly lovely.

sprinkleofsunshine · 18/01/2019 15:28

Had 6 months smiles, took 5 months for tip and 4 for bottom, best money I've ever spent. Would recommend for quick results as teeth tend to move faster when the brace is fixed, can be a little uncomfortable just after tightening etc but nothing major. To anyone who is thinking of doing it I'd say go for it!

CSIblonde · 18/01/2019 15:32

Yes. Painful first few days. You have to wear a retainer at night permanently after which I found a pain tbh. Took a year. I wish I'd gone for invisible permanent brace behind the teeth which I wasn't told was an option til I moved Dentists. Same price, no retainer.

Lellochip · 18/01/2019 15:35

@FortyFacedFuckers I've pmed you

Lellochip · 18/01/2019 15:39

RoboticSealpup I think it depends on what they're actually doing as to whether you need both top and bottom doing.

Inman aligner is just for front 6 teeth so wouldn't change your actual bite, so can just have one arch. If you're having more in-depth correction I guess they might need to do both to ensure they still match up when you bite?

Lellochip · 18/01/2019 16:47

For @FortyFacedFuckers - a glamorous collection of photos Blush - the aligner is clear plastic so visible across the teeth but not horrendously so. And can see the sticky-out tooth in this angle

FortyFacedFuckers · 18/01/2019 17:06

@lellochip thank you that’s so helpful!

hownowpowpow · 18/01/2019 20:36

@Lellochip thanks for that. Pics really helpful. My issue quite similar.

Was at my dentist yesterday and she said to come back to her after my consultation and we can chat about what the orthodontist suggests.
