I'm new here and I've notice that quite a few posters change their name on here so they're not sussed out I guess?

Does any of your friends and family know that you use mumsnet? Or do you not even mention it in case your baiting yourself out

Curious to know.

I thought we did have a handshake!

Hidingtonothing · 11/01/2019 18:42

First rule of Mumsnet........

ScreamingValenta · 11/01/2019 18:43

My husband knows and so does my sister. My parents know I use something called Mumsnet but they don't really know what Mumsnet is. I've suggested to my sister that she joins, but she didn't seem interested.

bilbodog · 11/01/2019 18:44

Lots of my family and friends know im on here and just laugh at me all the time! They dont know how good it is. Occasionally i say ive read something somewhere and they all give me a look - i then give in and admit i read it on mn 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. They will be the loosers when theres a zombie invasion........

WH1SPERS · 11/01/2019 18:44

My husband also knows that MN is always right. He sometimes suggests that I “ consult the fount of all knowledge “ . Or maybe it’s font.

Neverunderfed · 11/01/2019 18:45

;-)

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 11/01/2019 18:45

My designer (OnePlan) knows who lots and lots of mumsnetters really are, as she designs various elements of their homes with them.

I really tried to get her to divulge who else she had worked for and she's steadfastly refused to even give me a hint. ( although I've seen quite a few recommendations on here from various people)

TwiceMagic · 11/01/2019 18:46

I had a thread where someone I know recognised me. She contacted me to let me know.

I have always namechanged regularly, which is probably sensible.

dellacucina · 11/01/2019 18:47

I met one of my IRL best friends on a different chat board (one that is quite controversial!). Only she knows about my MN posting.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 11/01/2019 18:47

My husband knows I use it and we talk about issues while we're in bed together relaxing, all the time, usually whilst we play our video game. My best friend also, knows I use it and so do my family.
It's just like Reddit, except with a mega dose of estrogen. Wink

Andjustlikethat · 11/01/2019 18:48

Only my husband knows, been on here years but I like a good name change every now and then frequently because I like to live dangerously and mix it up.

loadofcrap10 · 11/01/2019 18:51

I tell folk I'm on it, even though I don't have children. They always laugh and ask me why. Who wouldn't be, it's the most entertaining, hilarious thing on the internet!!!

uhtredsonofuhtred · 11/01/2019 18:51

@BlancheM well I'm guessing people wouldn't want to be recognised if their posting on the sex boards or slating someone that could recognise them from things their speaking of?

Loyaultemelie · 11/01/2019 18:51

My DM knows but doesn't use. My aunt uses which led to me swiftly namechanging when I recognised her. I also had a funny conversation with a PTA mum at out school who was making small talk then used a popular MN phrase once and then panicked for some odd reason, not as though I would know her nn. I did ask her about a stunt pineapple once a while later for badness just because she was so cloak and dagger

Zoflorabore · 11/01/2019 18:52

I've been on here for almost 5 years. My dp and dc know how much I love it " mum is on mumsnet again " is often heard in my house.

I have never ever met anyone who says they're on MN. Have often been met with puzzled faces when I've told a story about something I've read on here. Most people I know are seemingly addicted to FB which I can't stand.

Minniemountain · 11/01/2019 18:52

DH, DSis and a few friends know.

I discuss MN threads with a friend sometimes but we don't know each other's usernames.

uhtredsonofuhtred · 11/01/2019 18:55

I've never heard anyone mention mumsnet and I often stand in the playground and wonder which ones use it lol most of them I bet

Zoflorabore · 11/01/2019 18:57

Has anyone ever looked at a total stranger and thought " I bet she's a MNer " as I do that a lot.
I don't believe where I live fits in with the MN demographic at all though so that may be why nobody claims to have used it.
Who knows?

BlancheM · 11/01/2019 19:01

Quite right, uh, the pseudonyms, being savvy about what you post and lack of photos take care of that but being on MN itself isn't a secret.

Im an open book

uhtredsonofuhtred · 11/01/2019 19:05

@Zoflorabore yes all the time, there's one particular lady at my daughters school that just looks like an advertisement for it

winsinbin · 11/01/2019 19:08

People know I read it but I always lie and say I don’t post (OMG, maybe I’ve just outed myself). My adult DD is on here too but I’ve never spotted her. I alter details when I post and name change often....just in case.

BollocksToBrexit · 11/01/2019 19:09

First rule of Mumsnet: whatever you post about a patronising twat will always pop up to correct and grammar or spelling mistakes because they're so pathetic they're incapable of ignoring it.

honestlynotagain · 11/01/2019 19:11
