AIBU to avoid a film because the director also made The Lobster

Possibly one of the worst films ever made. He's since directed The Favourite which looks good fun but can he be trusted? I don't want to waste my money.

I didn’t think The Lobster was what it was marketed as. It was marketed as good. You could tell it was shooting for absurdist dark humour but it fell so far short that it

JamAtkins · 11/01/2019 17:10

Just left me all frustrated that something that should have been brilliant was embarrassingly weak. The idea was good and the acting was good. I guess it was the direction that did for it

MRSMARMITE3 · 11/01/2019 17:20

I liked the lobster but I'm still traumatized by the donkey at the start! I watched his other film (the deer one) and got bored by that quite quickly

DarkArts · 11/01/2019 17:21

I enjoyed Lobster, but get why some would not. I'm going to wait for The Favourite to come out on DVD and borrow from the library. I'm going to see Mary Queen of Scots when it comes out here.

CircleofWillis · 11/01/2019 17:29

A PP mentioned predestination. A fantastic film but my friend and I still find ourselves staring off into space with slightly bemused expressions on our faces whenever it is mentioned.

UtterlyDesperate · 11/01/2019 17:38

I'm not going to see The Favourite - DF rang me especially to rant about all the historical inaccuracies. For (what seemed like) hours.

Somehow, I have lost all enthusiasm Grin

Branleuse · 11/01/2019 17:39

Ive never seen the lobster but i really enjoyed the favourite

MepsiPax · 11/01/2019 17:55

I've never seen 'The Lobster', so I Googled it. Bloody hell,it sounds like my kind of film absolutely crazy!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/01/2019 18:00

Didn’t realise In Bruges and 3 Billboards were by the same director.
Loved both.

TheGoddessFrigg · 14/01/2019 15:26

HOW COULD ANYONE HATE IN BRUGES?????

Swear to god, I have seen that film so often I could recite it. Watched it again yesterday and it still makes me laugh.

Loved Predestination. And Triangle.

This is like a test my mate created- where he said that if you like marmite, you'll also like olives and twiglets.

ForalltheSaints · 14/01/2019 15:29

The Favourite I went to see last night. Very funny but I could write pages about the historical inaccuracies. OP hope you enjoy it.

TheFifthKey · 14/01/2019 15:30

The Favourite is quite obviously not trying to be historically accurate though, that's quite clear from the beginning, and I'm usually quite a pedant about that.

gingergiraffe · 14/01/2019 17:12

I thought The Lobster was odd but hated Cloud Atlas more. That was the worst film ever and I wanted to walk out but was stuck in the middle of a row and didn’t want to disturb people.

The Favourite was amusing in places, the costumes, acting and setting brilliant but overall I would not recommend it. A rather bland ending.

RollerJed · 15/01/2019 06:07

In Bruges is so funny! It's a classic surely?

BeardedMum · 15/01/2019 06:12

I really didn’t enjoy the favourite. Fab actors but the film and music made me dizzy.

Calvinsmam · 15/01/2019 08:52

In Bruge is our Christmas film.

The way Die Hard is for some people.

I’m looking forward to The Favourite now. We watched The Killing of a Sacred Deer at the weekend and loved it, and I loved Dogtooth too, but The Lobster just didn’t hit the spot for me, to much style not enough content. I like the more domestic stuff he does.

ScurfnNerf · 15/01/2019 08:58

The Favourite is a fantastic film! Incredible acting from the three lead actresses. It’s very funny. The funniest moment involves Nicholas Hoult and Emma Stone. Even my curmudgeonly DH laughed out loud at that bit.
I’ll always forgive historical inaccuracies for brilliant acting and a well-made film.

Loubilou09 · 15/01/2019 09:07

Hated The Favourite.

feska5 · 15/01/2019 19:34

Just been to see the Favourite. Superb acting, especially from the three leading ladies. Beautifully filmed too. But having said all that I wouldn’t say I really enjoyed it. It was very different. And the ending ..... 🤷‍♀️
