I don’t drive and would like somewhere a wee bit interesting, I like cities and beaches. I like culture. I want a rest and some sunshine. I’m open minded though. And I’lll be going alone. For under a grand all in , so not lap of luxury . Any ideas?

What about Barcelona?

jeaux90 · 10/01/2019 00:42

Cadiz? Should be good weather that time of year and it's surrounded by sea in three sides

Ilovefood1 · 10/01/2019 00:43

Malta? I'm going at the beginning of March and looks like it has everything you might want. Lots of things to see, easy to get around and quite nice weather at that time of year!

Second Malta
Valletta is so packed with interesting history, you could easily fill five days but if you want to travel about a bit, there is a fab, cheap bus service around the island.
Wonderful people, stunning architecture, incredible history .... ‘‘tis fab.

Valencia, best of both.

Floralhousecoat · 10/01/2019 16:22

Yep. Valencia definitely. Beautiful beaches, the city of arts and sciences. And the architecture is breathtaking.... and I say that as someone who's not a big fan of architecture. I hope to go back there again.

Fly to Bilbao, visit Guggenheim, then take the bus to San Sebastian by the sea. Lovely little city, walkable with amazing food. Do a pintxos (tapas) guided tour.

Or Tel Aviv. Amazing beaches and food, loads of Bauhaus, old port of Jaffa with markets.

Malta won’t be that warm in March

iamyourequal · 10/01/2019 16:50

I take it you are not expecting to be sunbathing or anything then? I was just concerned when you said you would like some sun. Neither Barcelona nor Malta would be very hot in March!

iamyourequal · 10/01/2019 16:52

I didn’t see you had already posted that Greendale! Likewise I have been in Barcelona in April. It was lovely and sunny but freezing..

Sparkletastic · 10/01/2019 16:52

Spain and Malta won't be that warm or sunny necessarily. Canaries will be lovely. Lanzarote is easy to get around by bus or hire a bike if you enjoy cycling. Arrecife is a great city.

bridgetreilly · 10/01/2019 17:01

I went to Malta at the end of October and while it wasn't exactly cold, it was windy, grey and rainy most of the week. I didn't love it there, tbh, despite on paper it having everything I like in a holiday.

Lagos Portugal

Yearinyearout · 10/01/2019 17:08

We went to Cadiz in February and whilst it wasn't exactly hot, it was sunny and warm enough not to require a jacket (maybe 18-20 degrees in the day but cooler morning and evening) It's a lovely city though, very authentically Spanish. We actually flew into Jerez which is also a nice city so we spent a day and night there before flying home. Caught the train between the two which is very easy as there's a station at Jerez airport!

PickleMeThis · 10/01/2019 17:09

Costa Rica. We went in 2016 and was around £545pp

foggetyfog · 10/01/2019 17:11

You need to go further than Europe for warm sunshine in March. Canaries, Morocco, Egypt, Middle East, Florida?

Mitzimaybe · 10/01/2019 17:14

I went to Malaga for 5 days on my own in March 2 years ago. The locals were still in their winter coats but I found it warm enough for shorts and vests. Not sure it would have been quite warm enough for lying on a sunlounger in a swimsuit. I'm not a beach person and not sure if there is one or not but there's absolutely loads to see and do there. I loved it and would happily go back.

cuspish · 10/01/2019 17:15

springy sunshine is enough, doesn't need to be hot hot hot.

I just came to suggest Malaga too. We've spent Xmas there for the last two years and while it's not sun bathing weather, it's really lovely for just wandering around. Lots to do and see, great culture and shopping, lovely marina, all within walking distance and easy public transport to other places too.

FuckingYuleLog · 11/01/2019 01:03

Lisbon and get the train to Sintra. Gorgeous palaces and coastline.
Vigo and get a boat out to Rodas Beach. Won’t be that warm there though. If you want heat it would have to be The Canaries or outside of Europe in March I think.
