Totally lost here but just been filling out my new contract for my new employer. And they asking me to attach my p45 to the 'new starter' section. Is that normal ?

yes its just for tax code purposes- otherwise emergency tax code will see you over taxed (money returned later once hmrc work out your tax code)

planespotting · 09/01/2019 13:25

Yes, so they can get the right tax code
If you dont then they might use a emergency one and then you might have to ask for a refund

Oblomov19 · 09/01/2019 13:26

Didn't your old employer give you a P45 when you left? They should have.

Ifangyow · 09/01/2019 13:27

Yes, quite normal.
Your P45 comes in two sections. One section is for you to keep and the other section is for your new employers.
It will tell you on each section which is yours and which is your employers.
This tells them your correct tax code so you don't pay emergency tax.

Ifangyow · 09/01/2019 13:29

Oblamov19.
Sometimes employers post them out to you once you have had your final pay rather than give them prior to you leaving.

RosemarysBabyDress · 09/01/2019 13:39

Completely normal.

Always amusing when employees have lied about their previous salary

Jax07 · 09/01/2019 13:56

Haha, I didn't lie about my salary but it does make sense now. I had a look at my p45 and will include part 2 and 3 as required. Thanks for the help!

When you leave a job you get a p45 that you pass onto new supplier . If you don't have one you complete a p46 .
