(The Organised Mum Method)

Does it work for you? Is it easy to stick to? And does your house feel really clean, or do you miss that ‘deep clean’ feeling from doing it all at once?

Never heard of this. Can you Google it? Lol.

MintedLamb · 08/01/2019 11:27

It really works for me. Im absolutely hopeless at housework but it's given me structure and my house has never been so clean and organised. I started off with the bootcamp and have been following the methods for about 8 weeks now, it gets easier every week and as ridiculous as it sounds it's really changed my life! The Friday focus is great for getting around to those "deep cleans" that in reality for me only used to happen twice a year.

Nothininmenoggin if you Google Team TOMM you'll get the blog and there's also a very helpful facebook group.

Pachyderm1 · 08/01/2019 11:32

That’s exactly what I wanted to hear! I’m hoping it will do the same for me. I’ve just had to stop employing my cleaner and rather than go through the whole rigmarole of finding and trusting someone else I’m hoping this will make it easy for me to just do it myself.

Didn't work for me. I tried but like you say I missed seeing the house immaculate top to bottom on cleaning day.

It took me way longer than the 30 mins a day to get everything Done.

I find it much easier to just do a weekly deep clean and keep on top of it day to day.

R2G · 08/01/2019 11:46

Yes it works for me. The deep clean happened by a cleaner but in reality because I was messy it wasn’t deep sofas weren’t moved etc which I’m now doing myself. Also, by having a checklist jobs have been allocated to partner and kids. I don’t feel so alone with it all or burdened.

Nothininmenoggin · 08/01/2019 11:49

Thanks Minted defo will look at this as being a shift worker always seem to be struggling to keep on top of things.

JudasPrudy · 08/01/2019 11:51

I don't fully stick to it to be honest but it's definitely inspired me to do a bit every day and the house is much cleaner as a result. I also like seeing the different products people are using. Method is a game changer.

Littlechocola · 08/01/2019 12:01

Works well for us. The whole family are involved (most of the time).
If you look we have a long thread on good housekeeping which is really supportive.

Pachyderm1 · 08/01/2019 12:02

Yeah, I am worried about lacking discipline and also that I will miss the feeling of the whole house being properly clean. But then it never stays that way so it’s a fleeting joy anyway!

Thanks @Littlechocola, will check it out!

works for me , the house is in a far better shape and im not spending my 2 days off consistently cleaning

BMOT · 08/01/2019 12:19

works for us and I'm so messy!
I know some people have said they miss the feeling of the house being immaculate on cleaning day, however I found we're now like that most days due to the 30 mins in the morning.
The whole family also know whats happening and on what day so for instance my lads now know that on Bedroom day they need to strip beds and leave their bedding on the landing etc

Thisonewilldo · 08/01/2019 12:24

I don't stick to it religiously but it does help a lot. I really like Gem and love watching her you tube videos with hints and tips.

I like that she is ecouraging about cleaning and tidying without being weirdly obsessive about it (like Mrs Hinch) .

peachgreen · 08/01/2019 12:25

Yes, it's brilliant. I've adapted it to work for my house and I don't always do the Friday focus if I'm honest, but it really helps me keep on top of things.

Stompythedinosaur · 08/01/2019 12:29

I quite like it so far, but the name hugely grates on me - hate the idea that cleaning is for mums!

It has encouraged me and do to do more cleaning and sorting though.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 08/01/2019 12:35

I like it. I don’t stick to it religiously but the idea and the method works. I definitely spend less than 30 mins every day doing stuff and I do all my level one jobs very quickly every morning or evening. You need to persevere for a few weeks to see the results

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 08/01/2019 12:35

I'm failing at it as I have a toddler, I'm pregnant, I work full time hours (but in a short week) and I'm knackered BUT I am trying to follow it and my house has definitely improved since I started trying! I have been doing little bits here and there and even my mum noticed that the house looks cleaner and less cluttered.
I find watching Gem on instagram and following the FB group gives me motivation to get up and do bits when I would normally be lazy. I'm not great though!

Pootles34 · 08/01/2019 12:37

Its bloody brilliant. I don't always do the 30 mins, but just sticking to one room at a time helps enormously - stops me getting side tracked. And the timer makes you go much quicker - astonishing how much you get done.

RayRayBidet · 08/01/2019 12:46

You could try fly lady

RosemarysBabyDress · 08/01/2019 13:03

It's the best method when you are working full time. I refuse to waste my weekends doing chores, who has time for that! Doing a little bit every morning before work is the only way to keep my house as clean and tidy as I like it.
It also saves my evenings, I only have to do a quick tidy before I go to bed.

Reading the TOMM made things even quicker for me, I like the "doesn't matter if you haven't done one bit, you will be there again next week".

Pachyderm1 · 08/01/2019 13:25

It’s great to hear that it’s helped people even if you don’t stick to it religiously because I definitely think that will be my problem!

OP posts:
JudasPrudy · 08/01/2019 14:29

@Stompythedinosaur it's not cleaning just for mums, she is the organised mum.

JudasPrudy · 08/01/2019 14:29

Gem that is.

EggFrenzy · 08/01/2019 15:40

TOMM's slow cooker demos are useful too

Calvinsmam · 08/01/2019 15:45

I’ve been doing it 6 months and don’t do it religiously anymore but I still do the level one jobs every day and just doing that has transformed my house. I love it.
