hana · 28/06/2007 18:49

maybe they are new to mumsnet, not everyone is as old as us lol

Twiglett · 28/06/2007 18:50

its not a mumsnet term though

its a generic internet fora term

and the internet has been going an awfully long time

OP posts:
Pan · 28/06/2007 18:52

What is a troll?

wordgirl · 28/06/2007 18:52

It's fairly easy to work out from the context I would have thought

Twiglett · 28/06/2007 18:53

Pan wins the points

OP posts:
wordgirl · 28/06/2007 18:53

That wasn't in reply to Pan!

Twiglett · 28/06/2007 18:53

don't worry wordgilr .. he's just being an ass

OP posts:
lulumama · 28/06/2007 18:54

i did not know what a troll was until I joined mumsnet, around 9 months ago...had only been on a more fluffy forum..so never heard the term before.

Pan · 28/06/2007 18:55

bit harsh.

McDreamy · 28/06/2007 18:56

I agree, had never used the term troll until mumsnet and tbh only see it used on here.

lulumama · 28/06/2007 18:57

and if the only internet forum you use is mumsnet, you would be forgiven for thinking it is a musmnet word, like fanjo, twunt or norks

JoanCrawford · 28/06/2007 18:57

It suggests to me that those asking, 'have a life'!

If you can, not only, say what a troll is but can spot one at a hundred paces, you clearly need to get out more!

FrannyandZooey · 28/06/2007 18:59

Why would you know, if you haven't used an internet forum before?

Hulababy · 28/06/2007 19:01

I bet my DH doesn't know what a troll is in internet terms. He has never been on a forum site, and rarely uses the internet other than for news and sport updates.

Pan · 28/06/2007 19:03

I haven't been on an internet forum before, and am unlikely to develop this, ahem, practice. I am not entirely sure waht a troll is or defined by, though am aware of some behavioural traits. IS this a 'real' concern Twiglet??

WigWamBam · 28/06/2007 19:04

I didn't know what a troll was until I started using MN.

It didn't take long to work it out though ...

obimomkanobi · 28/06/2007 19:11

Fanjo, twunt and norks aren't just mumsnet words.

I've never heard of the term troll before, I've asked several times on MN and still no-one has answered so I'm still none the wiser.

Just asked DH and he hasn't heard of it either so yes YABU

this is what a troll is

ladymariner · 28/06/2007 19:30

Thank god it's not just me!!!!

fryalot · 28/06/2007 19:31

quint - a troll is someone who (normally namechanges) and posts controversial comments in order to get everyone riled and worked up.

cat64 - BLW is Baby Led Weaning - where you don't actually feed your toddler, you let them help themselves or something
