I would never name a child Mia = missing in action. Or Cameron, what if she marries a guy named Cameron and then she is called Cameron Cameron?
Or Claudia because it means “one who is lame“ in Latin.

I know of a little girl called Ivy Norah. Couldn’t find an uglier name if you tried IMO.

Coffeeisnecessary · 07/01/2019 19:58

Argh my name is on here many times!! I used to get told what a lovely unusual name it was, now it's everywhere!

tillytrotter1 · 07/01/2019 20:00

The MIA thing really means anything only in the US.

I would never have called a child Jason or any version of Kylie, never taught intelligent ones. Being a teacher does influence one's choices, I recall my daughter wanting a particular jacket when we were out shopping and I wouldn't buy one because a horrible girl I taught had one!

Zoflorabore · 07/01/2019 20:03

I was at senior school and there was a girl
in the year above me called Pepper. I'm 40.

Madmarchpear · 07/01/2019 20:03

Surprised my kids name's aren't hereGrin
Agree - May/Mae names have become very sneered upon.
Chloe is a horrible sound. Evie/Ella/Ellie unimaginative.
Seb is overdone and has lost any niceness it used to have.

BloomsButtons · 07/01/2019 20:04

I forgot about Blaze! God awful name.

Flint-Phoenix is...different.

AuchAyeTheNo · 07/01/2019 20:08

Pamela Angry

I hate her something terrible. She’s attempted to destroy my life several times

bumblenbean · 07/01/2019 20:08

Oh dear - I’m a Sophie and think I’m pretty nice Grin

flumpybear · 07/01/2019 20:09

I loathe :
Jessica
Jennifer
Elizabeth
Pauline
Edna
Edith
Florence
Bernadette

Jason
Jaxon
All the K and 'den ending names
Anything made up

Pachyderm1 · 07/01/2019 20:09

On a related note, does anyone else have names that they love but would never give a child because they’re just too OTT or hard to pull off? Mine are:

Ottilie
Aurelia
Tabitha

Thing all three of those sound so pretty but I would never saddle a kid with them. I might have to get some fancifully named chickens instead.

Orangeyouglad · 07/01/2019 20:11

I met a baby called Barry last week !! I thought that name had long since gone out of naming fashion

Baby1onboard11 · 07/01/2019 20:14

Amelie - sounds like the parents couldn’t make up their mind. A combination of Emily, Amelia, Amy, Emma?!

TrudeauGirl · 07/01/2019 20:14

Coraline
Ophelia

Ones I would actually want to use are Rosalind, Cressida and Cordelia, Because i really love Shakespeare names for children. (Yes I'm a pretentious twat I know) Grin

TrudeauGirl · 07/01/2019 20:15

Shakespeare inspired*

DerelictWreck · 07/01/2019 20:15

I wouldn't call a girl Madison. It ends in "son" so really doesn't belong on a girl

What about Alison?!

GwenCooper81 · 07/01/2019 20:17

I've seen my daughters name on here. At least she'll never have to use her surname-initial to be known in class 😅
I fricking hate Bernadette. I knew a vile one and its beyond ugly.
Reggie
Jaxon
Jayden
Archie
Alfie

Kimberly (never met a nice one!)
Chantelle

BG2015 · 07/01/2019 20:19

I know someone whose called their son Walter. Just no.

I also know a Teddy-Rex (TRex?) again no

I'm a teacher and have had endless Harry's ( last year I had 3) and Olivia's in my class. Favourite names this year that I love are Darcey and Jonty - both children suit their names perfectly.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/01/2019 20:19

Traditionally no name of the grandparents' generation may be lost, so we all have a second + third name keeping up the tradition.
Though my DH vetoed Femke and Baukje.
I hope that the dislike of certain names does not extend to the person carrying the name. And I also hope that you all come down like a ton of bricks on your children if they start to make fun of mates carrying "disgusting loathsome" names.

FayFortune · 07/01/2019 20:20

Oliver.

It makes me think of Oliver Cromwell and that makes me think of Puritans and banning Christmas.

I realise I am in a minority on this!
J
Another odd reason is why I couldn't choose Violet: too close to violent.

Clionba · 07/01/2019 20:23

I love those female Shakespeare names as well. They always sound positive and strong!
Bloody hate Alfie
It's so common round here! "Alfeh, coom 'ere!"

Moonflower12 · 07/01/2019 20:23

I really like the name Chastity and all the virtue names but I'd never resign a daughter to a life of 'purity'- poor girl- not having any fun!

BackIntoTheSun · 07/01/2019 20:23

It's quite trendy now but I can't stand Olive cos it makes me think of olive oil/olives

Also irrationally dislike:

Julian
Pauline
Gary
Ruth
Stuart
Samuel
Jade

Clionba · 07/01/2019 20:25

Ezra seems to be quite common now. Not a fan.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/01/2019 20:25

Kai, Kayden, Klay, Jayden, all just scream a certain demographic.
If only people would stop and think about what they are naming their children.

When we had DD we (rather snobbily I accept) we (on one occasion) wrote down names and put Dr, Prof etc in front of them.
One of our neighbours has a 5 year old called, Kaleesee.

Essexgirlupnorth · 07/01/2019 20:26

Neveah (heaven spelt backwards), anything Mae it's too over used and name like Jaxxon spelt in an unique way
