I would never name a child Mia = missing in action. Or Cameron, what if she marries a guy named Cameron and then she is called Cameron Cameron?
Or Claudia because it means “one who is lame“ in Latin.

Question about Tegan - is it Tegan as in Megan, or more like Tay-gan?

Nothininmenoggin · 08/01/2019 11:20

Phoebe and Jackson spelt as Jaxon. As a midwife have heard THE most utterly awful ridiculous names but these are the two that leave me cold.

jacksonmaine · 08/01/2019 11:22

Kim/Kimberley fan

Kim Gordon. Legend!
Kim Deal. Legend!

Enough there to legitimise the name. Case closed. Grin

FairfaxAikman · 08/01/2019 11:23

I loved the name Jane at one point - simple and classic.
Unfortunately my father's alcoholic, abusive, lying, cheating ex has rather put me off it.

HairyToity · 08/01/2019 11:26

Mine, DH and DD are all mentioned. The only name not mentioned is DS.

I think it's good we have such a variety of names. Be boring if we all liked the same thing. My DD is in a class of 28. There are two boys with the same name. This is a name outside top 100. The more common names there is only one of.

I wanted to pick an unusual name, but DH and I never managed to find the elusive unusual name we both liked, so both children have popular names. Our DD is top 10, and DS top 50.

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 08/01/2019 11:38

I really don’t like Logan and can’t understand why it’s so popular.

Nevaeh is just awful.

Surnames as first names, mainly for girls like MacKenzie (sorry pp) or MacKenna there’s just nothing nice about these names.

Mummylife2018 · 08/01/2019 11:52

Obviously I disagree! My daughter really suits Mackenzie and is known by everyone as Kenzie! :) Halo

bananamonkey · 08/01/2019 11:56

Tegan = Tee-gan My Mum’s cousin is Megan pronounced Mee-gan though 🤷🏻‍♀️ .

This has reminded me I dislike Logan, there’s one in DD’s swimming class and the mum called him Logie 🤢

I thought the Neveah thing was an urban legend but I came accross one in a shop recently

Enko · 08/01/2019 12:01

Flora love it as a name however out surname starts FL too and just makes it weird sounding

Jeanclaudejackety · 08/01/2019 12:02

Basically I teach in various schools and establishments and there are a stock group of names that I just wouldn't use because they're EVERYWHERE and literally every place I work has the same groupings of names

Thomas
James
Josh
Alfie
Evie
Grace
Poppy
Freya
Sophie
Annabelle
Isabel
Ellie
Ella

There's nearly all of them in every group I teach they're lovely names on their own hut not for me for my own kids

Wateringhole · 08/01/2019 12:04

Jack

All Jack's I've ever come across have been naughty.

Jeanclaudejackety · 08/01/2019 12:05

Also to add I know a Kitty and a Harley who are really naughty little so and sos and I associate those names with basically telling off the kid so no no for me haha

TraineeCrone · 08/01/2019 12:08

George, there are probably nice George's out there but in imo it is a name they grow into and what they grow into is usually not nice.

Jeanclaudejackety · 08/01/2019 12:09

Those names above are Yr 2 and above. Reception and year 1 seem to have a different trend of names creeping in. I've come across a few new names which are getting more and more common in schools I teach in: Valentina, Cooper, Hudson, Lennon, Nancy, Marco, Miley, Cohen, Betsy spring to mind. But these are all really nice names just wondering if they will be the Evie and Josh of tomorrow

belinda789 · 08/01/2019 12:17

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie named one of the children "Shiloh". Shiloh Pitt wounds nice until you Spoonerise it. Imagine the poor child's life at school...…...

Lightsong · 08/01/2019 12:46

My DD's name has been mentioned here as 'overused' but I can live with that considering some of the names at her primary school:
Justice
Ebony
Electra
And one family that have 3 boys:
Harrison
McCartney
Lennon

Justheretogiveaviewfrommyworld · 08/01/2019 12:47

Candida. One, where we live they would be bullied in school for sounding so different from every othe girls name, which invariably end in 'ee'. Two, the obvious reason, I have to say, the thought of it makes me gag.

Kahlua4me · 08/01/2019 12:57

belinda789 excellent spoonerism, made me laugh out loud and have to explain to dh what I am doing when I am supposed to be working 😀😀

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 08/01/2019 13:06

Apple - Apple is what you eat

Any name with Mae - too common

Alongwaytogo · 08/01/2019 14:07

Not a fan of:

Anything with Mae in it,
Willow,
India,
Harper,
Harley,
Logan
Riley
Kitty

My cousin is called Kendal. And her nickname is mint cake! She's only 6.

Subtlecheese · 08/01/2019 14:10

Oh pllllleeeease say they have a daughter called Star/ Estelle/ Seren?

Skyejuly · 08/01/2019 14:18

Don't like Amelia for meaning and popularity. Madness

Also hate

Ryland
Kaylen
Albie
Arlo

They just sound so weak.

Skyejuly · 08/01/2019 14:19

Oh and analease which is anal ease to me!

N2986 · 08/01/2019 14:22

My dds name is on here Blush
I dislike Isla, Tilly, Lola, Tallulah etc
For boys I don't like Charles, Keenan, Alfie, James
Don't know why they just grate on me.

I secretly love American names tho- is Jaxon, mason etc but my DH wouldn't go for it. I also love posh names like ottilie but they'd stand out a mile where I live.

Dartie · 08/01/2019 14:23

Just out of interest, seeing as all my DC are all names on this post, my DS being the most hated of all (proud moment 😁) who has the eldest Jaden / Jayden? Who is responsible for starting this trend. My son is 18 and actually was a nightmare at school and I guess made his teacher cry. He was an autistic dude though. Anyone with an older Jaden. I will not take the blame. 😂
