Not to panic about possible overdose?

Have got the lurgy. Took two Superdrug Flu Relief Capsules with Decongestant. Just checked the instructions on the box and it says a dose is ONE capsule every 4 hours up to a maximum 4 in 24 hours, and to seek immediate medical advice if you overdose.

Active ingredients:
Paracetamol 500 mg
Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 12.18 mg

A double dose won't do me any harm, will it? Obviously I will read instructions more carefully in future.

I can't imagine this will be a problem but I think you would be wise to speak to a pharmacist for the qualified answer

Totally agree with confused

It’s the Phenylephrine it can raise your blood pressure hence the caution, it’ll likely be ok but most certainly ring your pharmacist to double check

ethelfleda · 07/01/2019 15:17

I think you’ll be fine but speak to a pharmacist or call 111 for advice just in case.
Hope you feel better soon.

Since each capsule contains 500mg of paracetamol you will be fine in that front since max dose is 1000mg every 4-6 hours. As a pp said phenylephrine can raise your blood pressure. Do you have any blood pressure problems in general? If your blood pressure is normally fine i expect you should be fine BUT check with a pharmacist to be sure OR is there a phone number on the box? Perhaps you can contact the company and check.

Thank you to everyone who has commented. I can't easily get to a pharmacy so that's why I posted here as I know there are some very knowledgeable people on this site.

I had an NHS health check last year and my BP was on the lower side of normal for my age etc. My mum always had low BP.

I feel OK; much better than before I took the pills. Although now I've read that about the blood pressure I'm getting probably imagining a tingling feeling in my left arm. Such a hypochondriac!

He will be fine - when I was going through a bad period I was taking an overdose of ibuprofen and paracetamol daily - this is not something I encourage obviously but I was desperate for relief. Fortunately all I had was an upset stomach!

ErickBroch · 07/01/2019 16:14

Sorry initially read as DH! Max of Para is over 1000mg per 4 hours - you will be fine :) feel better soon

Imnotaslimjim · 07/01/2019 17:19

Im a student nurse - Max dosage of phenylepherine is 20mg so 2 tablets takes you slightly over that. If you're concerned ring 111 for advice but you should be fine
