How has dairy milk won Britain best chocolate? Most people I know boycotted it ages ago because it tasted like wax
What is going on!

All mass produced chocolate tastes like shite these days. We have the most amazing independent chocolate shop in Leicester called Cocoa Amore so we get all our chocolate from there now. They sell a brand called Luker which is to die for.

needsleepzzz · 06/01/2019 21:33

Galaxy number 1, Aldi dairyfine and choceur number 2 Grin
My chocolate addiction though is malteasers Star

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 06/01/2019 21:35

Fairly sure that Marks and Spencer’s Swiss chocolate is made by Frey, who are a pretty big and decent name in chocolate. Either way, both Frey and M&S choc is fab.

babysharkah · 06/01/2019 21:41

God aero is hardly even chocolate. I like montezumas and waitrose 1.

PestoSurfissimos · 06/01/2019 21:44

Montezumas all the way here for British chocolate 🍫
Next best I think is Lidl (although it’s probs not British)
And for overseas chocolate it’s got to be Lindt

I also like Milka, but find it a bit too sweet

ChesterGreySideboard · 06/01/2019 21:49

I sold the chap who started Montezuma, I think he was called Simon, the magimix he used to first make the chocolate when he first started out in Brighton. Their shop was on my way home and they would often be outside handing out free tasters.

70sbaubles · 06/01/2019 21:52

Frys all the way, choc cream and turkish delight

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/01/2019 21:59

I completely agree that Dairy Milk tastes of wax. Lord only knows what they've done to my beloved Creme Eggs but they're even worse.

Green and Blacks used to be lovely but they are - I believe - owned by Kraft now. Since they seem to be edging away from their organic/Fair Trade roots, I don't buy it anymore.

I bloody love Lidl's dark chocolate and if I feel like splashing out, I like Seed and Bean's stuff (which, Kraft, is the sort of thing G&B used to be before you lot got your grubby mitts on it).

chockaholic72 · 06/01/2019 22:02

I can't wait for this to arrive later this year. I'm another addict who is seriously disillusioned with Cadbury's offerings. A friend brings me a stack of it back from Amsterdam for me every year - it's utterly delicious. www.confectionerynews.com/Article/2018/06/22/Tony-s-Chocolonely-to-launch-in-UK-in-2019

ShakespearesSisters · 06/01/2019 22:02

I do like CDM, but it has to be room temp not chilled so it melts in the mouth.
I have recently discovered Monty Bojangles, these are scrummy.

merrypukemas · 06/01/2019 22:08

chock another vote for Tony's Chocolonely - it's delicious! Funny shaped bars get on my nerves a bit though... DH works in the Netherlands and all our friends have cottoned on to this and ask him to bring bars home. Quite glad to see it's being launched in the UK!

Thewifipasswordis · 06/01/2019 22:11

Mosanto paid for Cadbury to win. Also don't they have investment in C5 or something anyway?

Cadbury chocolate is god awful.

megletthesecond · 06/01/2019 22:12

Divgirl I've had to go cold turkey on the M&S giant buttons Blush.

ChesterGreySideboard · 06/01/2019 22:14

Oh, a previous thread pointed me to this. lovecocoa.com
Great x 3 grandson of John Cadbury pissed off at what is being produced using his family name.

SunnySummerDays · 06/01/2019 22:19

Aldi or galaxy

lenaperkins · 06/01/2019 22:22

Irish Cadbury’s is still good, but yes the dairy milk been sold now is vile. Actually, worse than vile. It’s meh. Like having sex without the orgasm.

BonnesVacances · 06/01/2019 22:22

I can't believe people haven't noticed the change in CDM. I think if we look into it, we'll find out Mondelez made the programme. Was is Ch5 or similar? Hmm

Milka is also owned by Mondelez so if it hasn't been ruined yet, it will be.

Betty777 · 06/01/2019 22:23

How did Aero win 2nd? is it even chocolate???

ps I secretly love plain dairy milk. I recognise i'm almost alone in this. Mainly I do it to annoy my chocolate-snob family

missmouse101 · 06/01/2019 22:26

I was very unimpressed with the Love Cocoa sadly. I was hoping it would be like chocolate used to be and it wasn't at all.

Yearofthemum · 06/01/2019 22:27

Aldi Moser Roth 85%.

SirBobblyofSock · 06/01/2019 22:32

Cailler Rayon chocolate is the best- although only available in Switzerland though as far as I know, and also owned by Nestle so not an ethical choice and probably doomed to become disgusting in the near future....

Storybarn · 06/01/2019 22:35

I've never liked galaxy chocolate, it's over sweet, greasy shite.

thenightsky · 06/01/2019 22:39

best chocolate ever and I live nearby I call in here just for the massive free tasting they let you do!

CombineBananaFister · 06/01/2019 22:43

CDM tastes waterproof, it's weird. Galaxy seems to make my throat burn, also weird. Most other stuff just tastes like sugar and wax.

M & S do a chocolate bar called a blonde which is how caramac used to taste before it was ruined - it is delicious!

PooleySpooley · 06/01/2019 22:43

I blame Phil Collins.
