To think this is not the best chocolate in Britain

How has dairy milk won Britain best chocolate? Most people I know boycotted it ages ago because it tasted like wax
What is going on!

I am currently eating Divine with toffee and sea salt. Since Cadbury’s got shit it’s my favourite by some distance.

OhFlipMama · 06/01/2019 20:33

Moser Roth here too!

Sunnysidegold · 06/01/2019 20:33

I heard somewhere green and blacks is made by.....cadbury! Grin

I got given a tub of roses / heroes or something and went straight for the little dairy milks. I was so disappointed! How can Cadbury put this stuff out?? Was there ever a taste test performed?!?!

Just had some m&s truffles. They were nice.

Til89 · 06/01/2019 20:35

Cadbury is my least favourite. I’m not really a chocolate person though, hard to find one that I do like.

Cattus · 06/01/2019 20:35

Moser Roth is horrible, and I say that as an Aldi fan.
I don’t eat Cadbury chocolate as a rule but I went to Cadbury World recently and ate some of the free milk chocolate. It didn’t taste any different to how it ever has. It made me wonder of people just want to think things were better in the good old days whether they were or not.
I’m not a proper chocolate aficionado up my vote goes to Lime Lindt, and raspberry. Could eat stacks of that.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 06/01/2019 20:35

I agree, and with the great choice of chocolate we have now from elsewhere (Godiva, Purdeys, Lindt) there is a lot of competition to produce more quality products. I hate Cadburys and Galaxy now.

I suppose what they need to do is a blind taste test of the mass market milk chocolate like CDM, galaxy, various supermarket own brands, G&B etc, obviously cut up or perhaps melted and reset so people don't recognise the markings and only then would they be able to say which was the true best and not the one with the most effective PR and branding.

pineapplebryanbrown · 06/01/2019 20:36

I have no chocolate at all in the house, nothing. May be forced to eat an apple for pudding.

Also who can argue with a Cadburys crème egg?

Cattus · 06/01/2019 20:36

Yes Green and Blacks has been owned by the company that owns Cadburys for years.

Frankiestein402 · 06/01/2019 20:36

Doisy & dam - coconut & lucuna (dark) - no idea what lucuna is but the combination is seriously moorish

Huntawaymama · 06/01/2019 20:37

Wow I'm so surprised by these comments, I love Dairy milk. I hate galaxy.

My fave is probably lindt but dairy milk is cheaper per kg

robinwasntred · 06/01/2019 20:39

I like Green and Blacks or Lindt. I can't tell the difference between Galaxy and Dairy Milk but I am not keen on milk chocolate - too sweet for me. I don't like M&S chocolate for the same reason. The more bitter it tastes the better IMO.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 06/01/2019 20:40

Has anyone stopped to consider that it might not be the chocolate that’s changed, but your pallet?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 06/01/2019 20:41

I like Cocoa Loco and Divine, especially the white chocolate with strawberries. It's really hard to find chocolate that is palm-oil free, fair trade and not all weird flavours.

Ironmanrocks · 06/01/2019 20:44

I have a new love - Malteasers Truffles.......... Smile

FestiveGanesh · 06/01/2019 20:45

Best I've eaten has been Divine dark chocolate with little pieces of freeze-dried raspberries in it.
Can't stand milk chocolate and wasn't impressed by Aldi's Moser Roth which had been recommended.

waywardfruit · 06/01/2019 20:45

What award have they won then?

Cattus · 06/01/2019 20:46

I can’t find any information about Dairy Milk having ever changed its recipe, only some articles about a future bar with a reduction in sugar (alongside, not replacing the original).

ChesterGreySideboard · 06/01/2019 20:46

Given that the ingredients have changed to include palm oil it would be an almighty coincidence.

FloralTeacup · 06/01/2019 20:46

I must be bonkers because I prefer Dairy Milk to Lindt... can’t put my finger on what it is but I find Lindt so strange!

Sorry. Blush

LetBartletBeBartlet · 06/01/2019 20:48

I'm certain that it's the chocolate recipe that altered.

We used to take bars of UK dairy milk out to (non-uk) relatives as their own "dairy milk" didn't taste the same. Now there's no difference between them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/01/2019 20:48

Also who can argue with a Cadburys crème egg?

Ooh question :

Why Oh Why Oh Why are the middle fondanty buts in the Mini Creme Eggs rock hard but when you buy Heroes they have a Creme Egg chocolate that is always soft and delicious?

I thought I was being fobbed off with old , last years Mini Cream Egg but the dates on the bags are fine .

And the fiasco last year with the white Creme Egg - how many were unsold because the foils were damaged . Even in our local garage with the display box right in front of the till , they were shredded Angry

IBlameJulieBindel · 06/01/2019 20:48

Hotel chocolat sticks, but I can only afford them every year or so. Total luxury. For everyday, green and blacks isn’t bad at all. I do seem to manage to choke it down 😜

onlyhereforthefood · 06/01/2019 20:49

For a cheap fix I love Milka

I always get new varieties bought over by Dutch relatives.

Or ritter sport.

Cadbury these days makes me sad :(
