I've always had a lack of female friends and it's leading to a lack of social life for me now.

Just looking for everyone else's stories of how you met your friends? Was it randomly or work, school etc?

Where do you live?
I met my best friends at uni...but I don't live near them.
Now I live in Scandinavia and I have no friends at all!

Through a shared sport. Now we no longer play but most of our core friends are still from there, and also other friends that have been pulled into the group.

We lived in a post uni shared house together

My adult best friend I met when she was employed as the apprentice chef at a restaurant our family owns. She used to fight with the head chef and sneak in her own recipe changes and get into lots of trouble and I admired her attitude, creativity and stubbornness so decided to talk to her and now 29 years later she is the head chef at another one that we own and our friendship is still going strong.

I also have my best friend from boarding school and my best friend from when I was 4 but we aren't so much as close these days, more have a sort of sibling friendship.

Through work. My most long standing friend is a former colleague. I had another friend I met through work who died five years ago. I also find female friendship difficult perhaps because I was bullied by girls at primary school. If you lack confidence it’s difficult to really connect, you can come across as either stand offish or too needy.

I have three “best friends”.

One from high school.
One who I met because our boyfriends (now husbands) were friends.
One who I met because my D.C. made friends with her D.C.
