To be to scared to fall asleep because of my toddler

The title sounds a lot worse than it is.

I can't sleep because I am getting anxiety about DS waking in the night.

DS (22 months old) was a perfect sleeper from 4 months old due to a solid routine and he could self settle with no sleep associations.

We've been away to sunny Scotland, stayed in a hotel which meant DS in a travel cot in our room for 4 nights. We did the whole routine and both me and DH would turn the lights off and hide under the covers silently until he went asleep. But now when he gets in his cot in his own room he's standing up and crying for hourssss (CC isn't working, ending up sitting by the bed stoking him until he is asleep) and he woke up at 4:30 and didn't go back asleep which is resulted in us all being tired and very grouchy and short tempered

We're supposed to be going for a spa evening tomorrow and leaving DS with F/MIL but I can't expect them to have him over night if this is how he'll be SadSadSad

Sporadic night wakings are pretty normal for young children. They go through developmental leaps, they get unwell, they cut teeth, they might be feeling a bit anxious etc. They need to know they are safe and loved, reassure them, do whatever you need to to gently get them back to sleep, and 99% of the time it will be short lived and normality will resume.

If I were your MIL, I’d be happy to deal with a few night wakings for one night only. But obviously you should check with them what they think.
