To be furious at the British public?! Lighthearted

I'm watching The Greatest Dancer, a new programme. Basically, the dancers/dancer goes into a studio and does their dance. If they get above the threshold of audience pressing their light, the studio doors open and they see the audience.

Not enough lights mean the doors don't open and they have to just leave the studio.

I'm furious. A very well trained in Russian technique ballet came on and did a stunning performance. He didn't get enough lights!

Yet a silly little dance group of Welsh children got through.

Cheryl was fuming too.

AIBU to be furious at the British public?

If you kept watching, I bet you’re even angrier now!
Did love Cheryl calling the audience thick within the first 10 minutes though Grin I really hope there’s a wildcard type thing and they can bring back the ballet dancer. He was so good.

Yes loved Cheryl calling people thick Grin

I was annoyed, then I saw the boy with Down Syndrome absolutely smash his audition. Natural rhythm and really sweet. I cried Sad

I loved the man in the audience who said “This is Brexit part 2.” when the ballet dancer didn’t go through Grin

I turned it off after the Cheryl fan man, but I’m going to watch again when I can fast forward through all the crap reception bits and sob stories.

I was really looking forward to this, and there has been some great acts, but I really didn’t like Cheryl (and I don’t mind her usually). She just cane across as insincere and doing ballet as a kid doesn’t give her the credentials to judge others.

OP, I’m afraid that I struggled with the ballet guy. I don’t mind ballet, but I wondered if he maybe should have ‘marketed’ himself better? I felt if he had been wearing something the audience could relate to, he may have received more points. The acts that got through were much easier to understand/associate with and I think with male ballet he should have tried a bit harder to be seen as someone the audience could relate to.

I loved the boy at the end, I cried too. He was so happy, as was his best friend! Lovely.

Loved Oti! The best bit was where the young dance troupe came out from Wales and Cheryl said “I wonder what they’ll be doing?”, Oti replies instantly “Latin, I know those shoes anywhere!” I think all captins should have a strong professional dance background, where they will be able to actually support and mentor their acts when they get them. Just feel with Cheryl people will be at a disadvantage, IMO.

Let’s see what next week brings.

The Cheryl guy should not have gone through. That was awful!

HannahnotAgnes · 06/01/2019 11:04

The Cheryl fan was shockingly awful - what's the next stage as presumably he'll not get past that?

I think Cheryl does have good credentials to judge - she's danced her whole life & it's still a big part of what she does. She's in the same position as Mr Schue so if she's not qualified then neither is he. I loved Oti before this, but wasn't sure about her last night.

I also prefer Alesha as a judge rather than host & not really a fan of Ashley Banjo - seems a nice guy but not enough personality for TV in my opinion.

Imfinehowareyou · 06/01/2019 21:40

It wasn't Ashley Banjo!

Imfinehowareyou · 06/01/2019 21:41

It's his brother Jordan.

Dancer12345 · 06/01/2019 21:42

Oh my gosh, I was fuming at this too! People clearly don’t appreciate the difficulty of ballet. They were saying “it wasn’t very exciting” - clearly missing the talent! I’m glad the judges were shocked too, and I really hoped they’d turn round and make an exception and let him through. Shame. Good programme though.

HannahnotAgnes · 06/01/2019 23:27

Sorry @Imfinehowareyou , I knew it was Jordan, just typed the wrong name. I love Ashley & think his personality comes across very well on TV, but unfortunately Jordan's doesn't at all in my opinion - he's very wooden / flat.

Imfinehowareyou · 07/01/2019 08:30

But aren't their voices identical?!!
