Just saw this advert on my FB feed. What the absolute? I know it’s aimed at adults but even then is it trying to say the person wearing it is thick? Is it only me that that thinks it send out the wrong message? I’m happy to be told I am missing the point or I am too old to understand ConfusedHmmWink

I understand black humour is necessary for the people who work in the emergency services.

Not just people working in emergency services, its a corner stone in British culture as a whole and why our comedy influences world wide culture, and, more widely comedy in general and has been for centuries, the idea that comedy should only "punch up" is looking at comedy through some rose tinted glasses at best and authoritarian at worst.

Gronky · 05/01/2019 21:50

Those that have defended it. Would you wear it?

Probably not, I prefer a long sleeved T shirt Grin

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/01/2019 21:53

Fuck me! If this is your reaction to posters with different views on this Tshirt, WTF are you like about Brexit OP?ShockGrin

Travisandthemonkey · 05/01/2019 21:55

I’m not really surprised you’re ex police tbh

User758172 · 05/01/2019 21:59

@Travisandthemonkey

If you only knew the stuff they joke about... it’s a coping mechanism. Don’t you think it helps when you’re surrounded each day by abject human misery?

OrangeSunsets · 05/01/2019 22:01

Ok so let’s take it back to my original, underailed question and AIBU. Is it trying to say the person wearing it is thick, is it sending out the wrong message or AIBU?

Travis, I left the police to live abroad. I was an exemplary police officer and if I were to return to the uk I would be welcomed back. Thank you for your uninformed personal opinion.

Let’s not start on Brexit Grin

Yes, YABU. Hmm

Travisandthemonkey · 05/01/2019 22:03

@OrangeSunsets
Not sure what my post has got to do with why you’re an exemplary police officer or why you left.

I do think it has something to do with you being outraged over something relatively harmless and finding yourself needing to be the moral arbiter.

That is why I am not surprised you’re ex police.

ReflectentMonatomism · 05/01/2019 22:07

When people chorus, “report it”, to whom? Or is this another of those “ring the police non-emergency line, they’ll log it” things?

OrangeSunsets · 05/01/2019 22:08

I simply reported to FB that I don’t want to see that shit on my FB feed. If enough people do then their marketing will be screwed. It’s all I can do...

OP posts:
OrangeSunsets · 05/01/2019 22:14

Travis you are the ones joking about your kids being abducted. Funny as hell.

Would you actually pay money for the T-shirt and wear it? Simple question.

I find it in bad taste and i’m fine with people thinking otherwise. I want to know if it’s sending out the wrong message or if I’m being unreasonable in thinking anyone that buys and wears it thinks it’s hilarious enough to pay money for.

Or is it a little bit in bad taste?

A meme ok?

A comedian ok?

A sketch ok?

A profile pic ok?

To buy and wear the T-shirt ok?

Or does it say something about the wearer? Since you can’t sensor what every single person sees when emblazoned across your chest..?

GenerationSnowflake · 05/01/2019 22:22

If enough people do then their marketing will be screwed.

but again, this thread will more than make up for rid with the free advert for that tshirt Grin

they have got all sorts in there!

What the absolute?
GenerationSnowflake · 05/01/2019 22:24

some are clearly designed for the OP Grin

What the absolute?
Travisandthemonkey · 05/01/2019 22:25

Well honestly
Who’s kid ever got abducted because of a t- shirt

Kid gets found. First words are. “Mummy and daddy taught me everything about stranger danger, but then I saw t-shirt and I thought it was ok to get in a van with a stranger”

GET A GRIP

Gronky · 05/01/2019 22:25

you can’t sensor what every single person sees when emblazoned across your chest

Personally, I can 'sensor' what every person sees on my chest because I have functioning eyes (though they're perhaps not as keen as they used to be) Grin.

Travisandthemonkey · 05/01/2019 22:28

In fact I am offended that you’re minimising all the hurt and pain caused by kids being abducted by presuming that their children were so fucking stupid to be influenced by a T-SHIRT

As ex police I would think you should be a lot cleverer about how these types of crimes occur.

But basically, you don’t find it funny. Which is ok. But your outrage is something else!!

Justanotherlurker · 05/01/2019 22:29

Humour likes to push boundaries.
That doesn't mean to say that all boundaries should be pushed.

What is this shit, progression has been partially built on the back bone of comedy, it's retrospective to pretend dark humour hasn't played a part, even with the rhetoric of only punching up, dark humour and taboo subjects have been a corner stone of progression

*It's not 'hilarious' - it's a cheap shit attempt at humour at best.(

It's an old joke that amy shumer and jo brand etc has built thier career on, it's funny to some, finding it not funny does not make you morally superior

Those that have defended it. Would you wear it? Proudly?

Not personally, and I would silently judge someone wearing it, but I don't want to be a part of some outrage mob and think like OP's and others that we should complain and try and shut it down

LightDrizzle · 05/01/2019 22:30

It’s grim.

Lose2StoneObviously · 05/01/2019 22:33

I think its funny

Aridane · 05/01/2019 22:33

Like Aridane, I thought it funny

GenerationSnowflake · 05/01/2019 22:35

name changed failed? Grin

Gronky · 05/01/2019 22:35

Like Aridane, I thought it funny

I think you may have forgotten to change your name Hmm

Aridane · 05/01/2019 22:36

Eh?

Aridane · 05/01/2019 22:36

Amused Ariadne has a similar name to mine!
