I'm new to mumsnet and looking for advice, I moved into a house that my in laws own (i am the tenant and pay rent and they are not my landlord)and sadly they live nextdoor,they always said my husband and I could live our lives and they wouldn't interfere but now I can't even walk out my front door without them wanting to know where we are going or what we are doing. No one likes to visit us anymore because of how in laws are. I can't even have my family to visit or stay. I'm now full of anxiety every day apart from when they go away for a few days.ive lived here for about 7 years, my husband knows I'm unhappy and thinks I should forgive them for everything they have said and done to me but I cant because it's ruining my self confidence living here.

Move! For your own sanity!

If it were me, I'd NOT give the reason for moving being the in-laws, so you don't cause resentment with them or your DH.

Find another reason: you want a bigger/smaller place, fancy a new area, want to be closer/further from family. Make viewings for other lots of places, be enthusiastic and pro active!

How are you not their tenant if they own it and you pay rent?

Sister in law is the landlords, it's a very strange setup to be honest.

Oh - not that it matters I guess, but they are your landlord if they own the property.

Even if an agent manages the tenancy, the home owner is still the landlord.

Did they move nextdoor after you moved in?

Why don't your friends and family visit because of them? Do the inlaws want to come round too?

Sounds drastic but I think moving is your only option tbh OP. I can't imagine this ever changing for the better.
