To let my six year old watch Ghostbusters

or is there a more child friendly version I’m missing? I know playmobil have recreated some scenes so I’m hoping they’ll do the whole movie! Or maybe the playmobil world poster on here can help Grin

Any thoughts? What age have you let your child watch Ghostbusters? It’s a 12A, used to be a PG until the 12 certificate was introduced.

I watched it around that age, but this was in the 80s

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 05/01/2019 10:05

My eldest child would have hated it at six, my youngest would have loved it at the same age. Trust your judgement of your own children x

JustABetterPlayer · 05/01/2019 10:15

Absolutely fine, don’t be silly you know your child better than any of us randoms on the internet.

userschmoozer · 05/01/2019 10:17

It depends on the child, there are a few scary jump scenes in it. The librarian ghost still creeps me out. But half the fun is having to watch
through your fingers Grin

Fruitbatdancer · 05/01/2019 10:19

4 year old seen them all, is now blaze about ghosts! We watched with him. He loves the playmobil. If you want to wait a bit amazon prime has the ghostbuster TV series available, (cartoon format) very child friendly if they are easily spooked.

WakeMeUpWhenGoodOmensIsOn · 05/01/2019 10:21

She may know her child JABP, but she doesn’t know the film particularly well. I started watching it on telly when DC were younger and found out the hard way that you really don’t notice the swearing, the sexism and the sexual content until you watch it with a 7 year old.

flumpybear · 05/01/2019 10:33

Yep 6 yo LOVES it! I let my DD watch all the Harry potters before she was about 7/8 no bad outcomes there either

Fruitbatdancer · 05/01/2019 10:39

In a similar vein I’d like to know when I should let my dinosaur mad son watch jurassic park?! I’m sure it was much scarier than ghostbusters?

gamerwidow · 05/01/2019 10:42

My DD was fine with Jurassic Park at 6 but even at 8 there is no way she could watch ghostbusters just because she finds ghosts scary and dinosaurs cool.

beckyh2502 · 05/01/2019 10:43

I'd definitely let them watch it at 6! I would probably let them watch it even younger to be honest. I think I watched the original when I was around 3/4 & loved the Marshmallow man!

JoeLycettsSparklyArmSling · 05/01/2019 10:45

Mine watched it before they were 4 and loved it. Haven’t seen the new one at all though so no idea what that’s like. There was a ghostbusters cartoon when I was a kid in the 90s too.

ADastardlyThing · 05/01/2019 10:47

Re: the bj scene, I just said the ghosts tentacles were tickling him and made him smile, seemed to be accepted Grin

shitholiday2018 · 05/01/2019 10:59

I still remember the levitation scene at 40 and it haunted me for years at bedtime. I was much much older when I watched it too. I’d say no. You never know at that age how they will digest and process the scary bits. I wish I could I have unwatched it (I am a wuss but so are lots of kids)

MsFrosty · 05/01/2019 11:04

My 3yr old watched it and loved it

GraceMarks · 05/01/2019 11:05

I saw it at the cinema when it came out and would have been about 5 or 6. I don't remember being scared at all, and I was quite a nervous child, but I do remember there being Language which I had to ask my mum about. I'm sure somebody says "shit" at some point but I could be misremembering - I haven't seen it for years.

Jurassic Park is properly scary! I wouldn't say it's for under 12s unless they're very robust.

DoggaWasFunny · 05/01/2019 11:31

My 7yo's love Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2. Don't bother with the new all girl one it's crap, but the 2 original are brilliant.

They also love the dance, search on youtube for 'just dance ghostbusters'

cloudtree · 05/01/2019 11:33

The BJ scene is in GB 2 I think. But there are quite a few sexual references in both of them.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 05/01/2019 15:38

Just found the real ghostbusters cartoon on Netflix, that should satisfy him for a while!
