I'm 32 my eldest sibling is 40,in all those 40 years my parents never had a night out. My OH can't belive this. We were poor and to me this is normal. Aibu or did your parents have a "night off".

We had no extended family and low income. Went to Butlins once. No holidays. No nights out. Never went to the cinema or McDonald's. Didn't eat out, unless we went to a car boot sale and we'd get warm freshly backed doughnuts. God they were nice. We had a day trip once to the zoo, in March. Freezing cold. It felt totally normal growing up. I'm grateful for what I can provide for my DS now, but I do worry he takes it for granted.

@CMOTDibbler - you have made my Saturday night with your explanation & pic of goat club. I was sure it'd turn out to just be a typo for, eg, boat club or golf club or something! Grin

We lived with our grandparents for a month in the summer and often for a week at Halloween/Easter midterms so yeah my folks got plenty of nights off over the years 😂😂
