to wonder why people pay for spa breaks?

I don't get it. The spa hotels cost about £250 for one night, without including any food, check in 3pm and check out 11am the next day.

You also have to pay extra for treatments.

Why do people pay so much just to sit by a nice indoor pool and use a steam room? Spa breaks are very popular so please tell me if I'm missing something!

A spa break would be one of my worst nightmares, but each to their own.

londonrach · 03/01/2019 22:24

Ive done a spa break and costs alot less than that £40 for a day without overnight stay. £100 for room, food etc. £250 is vvvv expensive

Haggisfish · 03/01/2019 22:26

Omg-can those people who mentioned the fab spas they go to name them please? Especially new forest one and one with library!!

thenightsky · 03/01/2019 22:28

I love them and go when there's a deal on. Share a room with a mate to bring costs down. I go to Ragdale Hall on their 2 or 3 night breaks when they have one of their bring a friend free offers.

AnnaMariaDreams · 03/01/2019 22:29

I go on a spa break annually with about 8 or 10 friends. No men or kids allowed.
We go to Centreparcs for a weekend in term time. The accommodation is £100 per head for 3 nights. The spa is around £130 for a whole day with breakfast, lunch and a treatment.
So we pay £230 for 3 nights and a day in the spa. Friday we all arrive and have a catch up over wine and pizza. Saturday day we spend all day at the spa. Saturday night we eat out. Sunday we lie in, relax with papers, go for walk/ swim or do something like badminton.
Some go home Sunday night, others stay for another easy dinner in or out.
It’s bliss.

HugAndRoll oh arses, I don’t know any spas in that area I’m afraid. But my main tip would be to go to a purpose built spa, even if it means accommodation is a b&b down the road (although on site hotel is better if possible ).

I often find that where a hotel has a spa attached it’s a bit tiny and only really good for an hour or two, whereas a proper purpose built spa is good for a whole day as there is so much more space and things to do.

ErictheGuineaPig · 03/01/2019 22:32

Brace yourself op, I'm going to tell you something earth shattering....

... People like different things. I know! Mad isn't it? I have it on good authority that some crazy bastards like paying a fortune to watch people kick a ball around. I've also heard that some people don't like running which is one of my favourite hobbies so how does that work?! God, its almost as if people are all completely different with different lifestyles and motivations isn't it?

Hezz · 03/01/2019 22:34

I love a spa break. We go at least 5 times a year, it's even better abroad

HappilyHarridan · 03/01/2019 22:35

Haggisfish Careys Manor in the new forest, or Chewton Glenn if you are feeling really flush. Penny hill Park in surrey, Four seasons in Hampshire and the Woodland spa in Burnley are all good.

brizzledrizzle · 03/01/2019 22:40

My eldest and I went to one before she started uni, we didn't pay for any extra treatments but we had afternoon tea, a lovely dinner and time to relax and use the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. There were only about 5 other people there and it was £125 for the room plus the meals were £50, breakfast included. It was a lovely break together - we could use the facilities from lunchtime to lunchtime and it had pleasant grounds to walk in.

itwaseverthus · 03/01/2019 22:40

Oh I love the full body massage with divine Espa oils. Would spa every month if I could. Crisp cotton sheets and a bed to myself, room service, peace and quiet. Heaven. Self care is so important. In fact, I think I'd far rather spa alone than join my friends for a girls weekend away which, to me, feels a bit like forced fun.

^^ This. I usually go to the Woodland Spa in Burnley, but plan to try Rudding Park or Center Parcs Sherwood Forest next.

Canibuildasnowman · 03/01/2019 22:43

It’s really,
Really relaxing to stay in a beautiful room, child free in a beautiful hotel. With swimming, steam rooms, lively smells, nice food. Really relaxing! Mostndona deal where you can get a treatment and/ or. Meal too.

Yabbers · 03/01/2019 22:45

I had a spa break once. Was bored stupid and couldn’t get over the fact I was paying someone 40 quid to wash my face. Not relaxing at all.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 03/01/2019 22:46

I adore a spa. Sometimes you can get decent deals with food and treatments included in the price. Nothing better than an hour in the gym, then a swim, sauna and full body massage.

Haggisfish · 03/01/2019 22:48

Thank you! I can vouch for wildmoor spa near Stratford although it’s attached to a gym, not a hotel.

Nettletheelf · 03/01/2019 22:48

You can’t think about your wretched, endless to do list or housework when you are on a spa weekend. Plus, you can sleep loads and all you need to think about is what treatment to have.

My favourite is Ardencote in Warwickshire. It’s gorgeous.

delboysskinandblister · 03/01/2019 22:55

www.spabreaks.com/search

i'm too unkempt to go anywhere at the moment - but that'll be the mince pies Grin

Enjoy!

Thekitten · 03/01/2019 22:55

I went on a spa break for about £200 for two 2 years ago. Posh hotel, lunch and dinner included, spa treatment included. Check out was at 11 but had full use of the facilities until the spa closed. Also got a free bottle of pink wine. If you're paying £250 and then extra for the treatment and not getting any of the food included then you're getting ripped off Wink
I did another slightly more expensive one last year, but again full use of the facilities for two days, dinner partially paid for and included the spa treatment. It was lovely and had a nice relaxing break with a friend. It was peaceful, relaxing, just nice to do nothing for a couple of days except self care. Yes they're expensive, but they're a treat, and worth it in my opinion.

RhubarbTea · 03/01/2019 23:00

I've never been on a spa break - are you supposed to be naked under your robe? Grin This thread is making me want to book one.

Winterberriesonatree · 03/01/2019 23:01

My adult DD and I go to our local leisure centre which has an adult swim on a weeknight, then enjoy a sauna and shower afterwards. It is is very inexpensive and we enjoy it.

With all the money we might have saved on spa breaks DH and I will have an inexpensive week in an all inclusive hotel in Cyprus around mid March. The food is great, the climate is much better than here at that time of year, it is usually warm enough to walk around in shorts during the day. Plus there is adult entertainment in the evenings.

If we didn't do this, we might try a similar winter week in the Canaries, with the same benefits.

FaFoutis · 03/01/2019 23:02

How do you get peace and quiet if everyone is going to the spa with a friend? Surely there is lots of talking going on.

Youmadorwhat · 03/01/2019 23:04

This place is my heaven 🙌 i literally floated out so if you’re ever in Ireland I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Youmadorwhat · 03/01/2019 23:05

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 03/01/2019 23:07

I love a spa break! Can’t afford them very often, but when I have I have loved them. Each to their own. Some of the stuff people spend £250 on baffles me!
