Help settle this argument between me and DH

We are going away for a 3 day break. Leaving in a couple of hours.

I just did a load of washing and realised that there's a t shirt I really want in there so it needs to be dried. Bear in mind that I'm 2 months PP and only comfortable In certain clothes so they are washed quite regularly.

I want to tumble dry the t shirt and hang the rest out as it won't take long on it's own. He thinks it's a waste to just tumble dry the tshirt and thinks I should tumble dry it all to 'get my moneys worth' (hmm). If I tumble dry all of it it'll take bloody ages and cost more (I'm not even worried about the cost as I rarely use the bloody thing!).

He's now looking at me like I'm the sole cause of global warming...

Yes, this is a ridiculous argument but please tell me I'm right?! Grin

Just tumble dry the t-shirt because a) it's not worth an argument and b) you're an adult.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 03/01/2019 11:34

Also, have a lovely time away!

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 03/01/2019 11:34

Sorry but hanging the t shirt on car seat during the journey works for me!!
Rest can be drying before you leave.

UglyDelicious · 03/01/2019 11:34

@Idontbelieveinthemoon it's in the tumble drier as we speak and he's blabbering on about how wasteful it is and how I should've tumble dried it all. It's very boring (and now I'm inflicting it on you; sorry!)

GreenTulips · 03/01/2019 11:35

Yep tumble dry the T-shirt

Tell him to sit

miltonroad · 03/01/2019 11:35

Stick it on a radiator til you go then back of car seat

Whisky2014 · 03/01/2019 11:35

Tumble dry t shirt
And just get on with it next time, your are an adult!

GreenTulips · 03/01/2019 11:35

Sit? Sod off

NoSixPlease · 03/01/2019 11:36

I agree with you OP. Tumble dry the shirt for 20mins and hang the rest.

UglyDelicious · 03/01/2019 11:36

@Santaisfastasleepatlast but then I'll be topless and we can't have that! I'm all seriousness though, there are 4 of us going so no spare seat. Plus doesn't your car eat fogged up?

OP posts:
Idontbelieveinthemoon · 03/01/2019 11:37

Tell him you'll plant a little tree in the garden in spring to make it up to the environment!

If you put a dry towel in with your wet item it will tumble dry quicker.

I have also been known to dry things with the hairdryer in severe emergencies Blush

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 11:38

Do you regularly eat meat, own a car, or - worse still, have children?! - If so remind him this is much worse than tumble drying as a one off.

Your regular habits are much more important than a one off occurance. He needs to get some perspective.

pictish · 03/01/2019 11:39

Take the damp t-shirt with you and dry it off in the car/in the hotel room/at your destination.

I wouldn’t put the tumble drier on for a single t-shirt...but nor would I dry the whole load when it’s fine to air dry on its own.

Ya both bu.

UglyDelicious · 03/01/2019 11:39

@MayFayner that's a fab tip. Thank you!

Merryoldgoat · 03/01/2019 11:39

When your child hits school age and you realise you’ve got no clean uniform for the next day until 11pm he’ll be drying that solitary jumper with the best of us.

AntiHop · 03/01/2019 11:41

It will dry quicker on it's own. Doing a full load would be wasteful. Yanbu.

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 11:44

Yes, drying the whole lot makes no sense at all as you'll be using more energy. How is that good for the environment? It isn't!

Your DH is confusing one off use with regular habits.

It saves energy to machine dry clothes together rather than one by one if you plan to machine dry all the clothes.

But as a one off, there are no energy savings, only a waste if energy if you add clothes you had no intention of machine drying.

Your DH is confused, UglyDelicious!

Aquamarine1029 · 03/01/2019 11:45

Yes to adding a dry towel to the dryer. Works wonders.

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/01/2019 11:45

His argument would only be valid if a full load tumble dried in the same amount of time as a single item, which it does not.

But either way the cost will be a few pence so not worth worrying about. If he keeps going on about it, give him 20 p or whatever small change that you have and tell him to shut up about it.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 03/01/2019 11:49

I'd probably say that while I agree with you Dp and in normal circumstances of course I wouldn't do that, this is not something I do regularly, In fact I very rarely use the tumble drier but I'm If I want this tshirt I need to dry it.

I'm an adult and while your free to share your opinion, you've done that already, I don't appreciate you raging about the house about it like I'm some sort of naughty child! Just leave it now before we fall out because we are actually about to fall out

Oldraver · 03/01/2019 11:52

It's one of the things that tumble dryers are for...the odd emergency when you need something now

If you were doing it all the time I could understand his stingyness

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 03/01/2019 11:57

You'll use less power just drying the one t shirt, and he needs one of those looks that tells him he is stepping into dangerous territory, arguing this point with a pregnant lady!

ClarabellaCTL · 03/01/2019 11:58

I'm amazed you have time to be on MN a few hours before leaving on a trip! You must be the world's most organised person, lol.
