We are going away for a 3 day break. Leaving in a couple of hours.

I just did a load of washing and realised that there's a t shirt I really want in there so it needs to be dried. Bear in mind that I'm 2 months PP and only comfortable In certain clothes so they are washed quite regularly.

I want to tumble dry the t shirt and hang the rest out as it won't take long on it's own. He thinks it's a waste to just tumble dry the tshirt and thinks I should tumble dry it all to 'get my moneys worth' (hmm). If I tumble dry all of it it'll take bloody ages and cost more (I'm not even worried about the cost as I rarely use the bloody thing!).

He's now looking at me like I'm the sole cause of global warming...

Yes, this is a ridiculous argument but please tell me I'm right?! Grin

But it would still use more energy to dry the entire load than this one piece, even if the energy per piece was less than for a single piece if all clothes were tumble dried.
As the rest of the clothes is line dried, it doesn't use any extra energy, so 0 per piece, the overall energy efficiency is still better by drying up this single piece than the entire load.

Load of 19 on line - 0
Single piece - 1
1/20 = 0.05

Load of 20 on tumble drier - 5 (conservative estimate)
5/20 = 0.25

So, the OP is right.

It would only pay off if the energy necessary for 1 piece was exactly the same as for the entire load.

Just tell him you've thought about what he has said and he's right you should be concerned about CO2 emissions. As a result you are all going vegan from now on.

But YABU for not using your iron to dry the single piece.

And YABEMU if you don't own an iron, even if you never use it.
